Droid 2 update

Verizon has published the Motorola Droid 2 Gingerbread update support pages, and that's usually a sign that the update isn't far off.  The update will bring the Droid 2 to Android 2.3, and software version 4.5.601.A955.Verizon.en.US (that's a mouthful) as well as an update to Blur not Blur and several bug fixes.  The key enhancements as listed by Verizon:

  • New Download Manager App
  • Under Manage Applications, a new “Running” tab displays a list of active applications, as well as the storage and memory being used by each.
  • Multi-Touch Key-Chording
  • Improved Word Selection and Copy Functionality:
  • New User Interface and Color Scheme:
  • New widgets, icons and screens with refreshed colors.
  • Three swappable icons and the App Launcher icon are fixed to the dock at the bottom of all home screen panels for easy and instant access.
  • New App Menu allows creation of custom app groups
  • Added Device and SD Card encryption.
  • VPN enhancements integrate IPSec VPN clients into device security settings

This must be a practical joke. Can it be true? Do we D2 people finally get an official GB update after watching every other phone pass us by? Good God Almighty, its a miracle!

Agreed!!! I almost felt like Liberty was my last hope for new life. Not to mention the fact that Motorola has practically put us D2 owners in a broom closet to keep us isolated from all the other "cool" phones lol

Still waiting on the official Gingerbread update for my Incredible. I wonder which phone will actually get their update first? LOL

Thanks for nothing VZ, I've had an unofficial GB on my D2 for weeks, and no doubt a better one than you'll finally release...assuming you ever get enough of your feces in one sock to manage it.

Ditto that. If this had come out a couple months ago it would have been on time to prevent me from learning how to root and flash my rom. Now I'm running an unofficial gingerbread release with all the bloatware frozen and absolutely loving it.

This D2 update is a little behind the leak that was out earlier this week.

If this is true about the update, verizon is putting out 4.5.601.A955.Verizon.en.US and earlier this week 4.5.606.A956.Verizon.en.US was leaked.....wonder what the difference is.....
