HTC Evo 3D to be $200 on contract at Radio Shack, $99 with trade in incentive

While the release date for the HTC Evo 3D is still up in the air, we know the pricing that Radio Shack will have thanks to a Radio Shack promo leaked to Good and Evo.  Off contract pricing is an affordable (comparably) $500, and with a new two-year agreement the Evo 3D will cost you $200 -- unless you're trading in your Evo 4G or Evo Shift 4G, which nets you an additional $100 off.  Yes, that means if you walk into a Radio Shack on the day it's released, and hand them your Evo or Shift, you can walk out with one of the years hottest new Androids for a measly $100 if you qualify.

Kind of makes it hard to say no, doesn't it?

Easily. Although you have to think that there will be a glut of Evos flooding the market as people upgrade, but I'm sure you'll be able to get more than $100 for it. I sold mine last month for $310 on eBay - I'm sure $200 for a good-condition Evo when the Evo 3D launches is a safe bet.

What are you talking about? You're not making any sense. You trade in your old Evo at RadioShack, the transaction will look something like this:

$200 (Evo3D) - $100 (Evo trade-in) = $100 spent.

If you sell your old Evo on eBay for a hypothetical $200, the transaction will look something like this:

$200 (Evo 3D) - $200 (Evo sold on eBay) = $0 spent.

So no, I wouldn't "just let them have [the Evo 4G] for $100."

The eBay percentage is like 10%, so 10% of $260 is $26. So $260 - $26 = $234. The trade-in value at RadioShack is still $100. So sure, go ahead and trade in your Evo for $100 and leave $100+ laying on the table. RadioShack is counting on suckers like you.

When you're selling your phone you're selling it OFF-CONTRACT; and to many that is magic.

Hell a $200 off contract Evo is a great deal. If somebody wants to get an Evo without renewing a contract then that is definitely the way to go.

So it wont be "flooded" with cheap Evos...

Let's hope so. I know the Thunderbolt would not be rooted now had they not got their hand on a older leaked ROM. I know there has been a leaked dump of the Evo3D already, but not sure if it's enough to allow rooting of the device. I really hope your are right though, cause otherwise I'm going to have to wait for the Galaxy S2 for Sprint.

Signed bootloader is fine...it can be rooted. Encrypted bootloader is a different story (Motorola). Motorola actually promised to remove encrypted bootloaders so hopefully companies will not begin to implement them.

HTC has plugged the holes in their new lineup of phones. So unless someone gets a hold of an engineering leak, like they did with the Thunderbolt, we might never see perm-root on the EVO 3D. Never as in b4 next year when the next generation of HTC phones are released.

Id be more confident that an engineering leak will surface for this device over the incredible s. Its too popular. Having said that, I wouldn't even consider an HTC phone without the possibility of a undervolted kernel. Battery life isn't HTC's strong point, but fortunately, I've had no issues with my Battsaver kernel for my tbolt. I get roughly the same battery life as my Epic with a bigger battery, smaller/more efficient screen.

I barely paid attention to the truck because I've seen all kinds of visuals on screens before on stuff that wasn't 3D (just look through a Best Buy ad and you'll see what I mean). Hmm. That sounds a like a reasonable offer at RadioShack, however, when I try to browse to www.radioshack.com/evo3d, I don't see any of the information on that offer, or anything related to the evo3d.

On 5/21/11, I went to my local BB store #1107(28273), and was told by two mobile department agents, that they didn't know anything about pre-orders for the evo3d and they couldn't sign me up.

I'm confused why I'm not able to confirm the validity of these offers.

Any ideas?

BUT, if you email sprintcares@sprint.com or call customer care, you can ask them nicely to bump your upgrade and they'll put you at Gold Premiere status for the Summer, when the Evo 3D comes out.

Apparently not everybody is getting the free upgrade adjustment. I got a call back from Sprint, and he told me that they couldn't change my upgrade eligibility date, and that I'd just have to use the $75. I told him I'd just keep the phone I have now and explore my options when my contract is up. He sort of fumbled around and said that if I trade in my Epic and use my $75, it would be the same as getting the full upgrade. I told him no thanks, and have a nice day.

I've been with them for 8 years. Since you've been with them over 10 years, you should be a "Gold Status" Premier customer, therefore giving you yearly upgrades. I'm not sure I'll be with Sprint long enough to make the 10-year-mark. The only thing that keeps me there now is the price.

Please provide an update. For the Premier Silver folks that got the Evo 4g in June 2010, they got screwed two months away from getting their full upgrade under the old program. Shift came out in January(?)...wonder if they'll do the same for people that got screwed "less"

Just got off the phone with Sprint Retention. I don't know how anyone who bought an EVO Shift is going to be able to take advantage of this deal. What she said was that since I just bought my phone in February, there was no way they could reset my upgrade status this soon. I would have to pay full retail for another phone. She did say they would give me $115 for my Shift. Not good enough. I have another option that might work, though. I bought my phone at Best Buy and they gave me the Buy Back plan for free. We'll see how that works with full retail...

I think so too. U basically can sell ur evo online probably get like 200 for it and then it would be basically free at the Shack or best buy. I mean u can even sell the HTC HD2 for more then 200 bucks easily. And that is the very first 4.3 inch black slab. First what does that website at the bottom of the ad have to do with mobile technology?

Second, I just left the video industry (last month, but still follow trade magazines on rental, theatrical and studio changes) there is a minimum window before a movie can be released by any other form other than theatrical (the shortest recently was 45-60 days, depending on the studio) and if it is released as studios are currently going to try this summer before a dvd street date, there is a premium (which they are suppose to be testing VOD premium same day VOD as theatrical release, but the VOD price is expected to be more than twice that of a theatre ticket) which I cannot see HTC paying a premium to get that movie per device before dvd street date, which will probably be Nov or Dec (which kind of kills the summer release of the phone)

Third, $99 is too much of a good deal to believe (I believe the EVO is worth more than $100 this summer) since the EVO 3D will have one of the best operating systems on the market, I am expecting $249-$299 w/contract.

I hope this is true and was ready to go to Radio Shack first thing in the morning, but after calming down...I think I will wait for official pricing to be released.

It is three times the CPU power, at least twice the GPU power, twice the RAM, something like four times the built-in storage, larger battery, better radio, newer Android, newer Sense, supposedly better camera quality, 3D screen and camera (which I personally don't care about), 1080P video recording.

About the only thing NOT a *MAJOR* upgrade about it is the loss of the kickstand.

Its interesting to note that The Shack will give you up to $179 for your EVO in good condition on trade anyway. So if your EVO is in good shape you could end up getting the 3D for $20 with a new two year contract.

If you do Sprint buyback at any Sprint store the current price for the Evo4g is $150.00 and Shift is $115.00. Radioshack makes a good claim but you can save some extra cash just by going to Sptint :D

I personally hate rebates and it seems sprint stores and online they do that kind of stuff.

I have had no luck via email getting my status 'upgraded', and I am one of the people who was Gold prior to the program change *and* bought 2 Evo's Launch day.

I am doing online chat with Sprint and running into some issues. First, Sprint keep messing with my primary line number (apparantly when I bought an Epic 4G, Sprint made that line Primary without my permission. Today was the 3rd time I have had Sprint correct it, but their mistake may screw me out of the upgrade. By status upgrade, they are actually calling it a grace period.

From Sprint Rep: "Effective 4/1/11, Sprint Premier Program is being updated to offer two levels of benefits, Sprint Premier Gold and Sprint Premier Silver, based on customer's MRC and tenure. The grace period to upgrade primary line till June 30th, 2010 for customers you were eligible for upgrade on primary line between April 1st, 2011 to June 30th, 2011."

And to top it all off, part of my problem is that Sprint messed up my account last year (I put the account in my wifes names (to get her work discount) in July and Sprint screwed things up and now that date is showing as my renewal date. Grr... I am on hold now...

[UPDATE] being connected to a Supervisor now. Grr...

[UPDATE 2] Supervisor not upgrading me "The Gold status was given to people who had accounts since more than 10 years with Sprint and due to some changes the actual activation date did not reflect on their accounts. These cases were checked and wherever possible and wherever applicable, gold status was assigned."

[UPDATE 3] Now on the phone with the Telesales Team, as per chat Supervisor advisement, since they (customer care) could not help me. I spent 1.5 hours in chat with Sprint so far. Let's see how long the call takes :)

[UPDATE 4] Now being transferred to another department (Account Services), after 15 minutes on phone / hold w/ Telesales.

[UPDATE 5] SUCCESS!! They reset my eligibility (takes 24 hours) so now I can upgrade at anytime with the max discount on my primary line.

UPDATE to my last post with doubts about this radio shack ad.

I just received a phone call from the Radio Shack store that I purchased my Evo from last June, and the voice mail left from my local Radio shack stated they were accepting pre-orders now for $50 and if i trade in my device, I will only owe the $99 w/ 2 yr contract, in which I may apply my $50 gift card to the purchase!

Sprint did override my trade-in to be effective June 1 last week, if your account does not show it yet, just call as ask for the override!
