HTC ChaCha launches in the UK, CPU quietly bumped to 800MHz

The ChaCha, one of HTC's new Facebook phones, has launched in the UK, with SIM-free prices hovering around £250 (~$400). Currently Three is the only British network offering subsidized ChaChas, which are free on 24-month contracts of £20 or more per month.

Interestingly, it seems the ChaCha has been given a last-minute bump in CPU speed, from 600 to 800MHz. This puts it on par with the Desire Z/T-Mobile G2 in terms of raw performance, making it a more attractive proposition for fans of this sort of form factor. We got to play with the ChaCha at HTC's recent roadshow, and although the unit we saw wasn't running final software, we were impressed with the design and build quality, particularly on the keyboard.

  • This thing has FAIL written all over it! From that stupid unnecessary Facebook button, the tiny screen, to the dumbest name for a phone I've ever heard!
  • I don't think it's a bad looking phone. Maybe for a teenager or something. However, that NAME is RIDICULOUS. Anyone remember the Palm Pixi? PIXI???
  • if i saw someone with this phone , i would punch them in the face
  • Not everyone wants a big phone. My wife wants an android phone about the size of the Pre, maybe a little bigger. I can tell you though, she wouldn't get this solely based on it HAVING the facebook button. Not because she doesn't have facebook but she describes it as an necessary evil to keep up with everyone.
