Tablet mount inbound for the QX10 and QX100 cameras, to make one giant camera

Part of the beauty of the Sony QX10 and QX100 cameras is the versatility. The ability to use it which whichever Android smartphone you have in your pocket at the time, or even an iPhone should you so desire. The included adaptor to strap it to your phone accomodates most current devices, but not tablets. But Sony looks set to change all that; it really, really wants you to use it with a tablet.

This image courtesy of the folks at Xperia Blog shows a new mount to strap either of the cameras to a tablet. It isn't going to be available until April, and initially in Japan only, but it shows us what is essentially a 10-inch camera. Yowzas.

Sure, you can already kind of use the QX cameras with a tablet, and there's no doubt that picture viewing and editing would be better on a big screen. But this goes one step beyond even those folks who wander around taking photos with an iPad.

One other thing of note; the selection of images shows the camera mounted to a Sony Vaio tablet. Is there a Windows 8 client of the Playmemories Mobile app on the cards? We like the QX cameras, but for us this might be a step too far. How about you?

Sony really, really wants you to take great pictures using a tablet

I hate to say this, but this is a great idea. Think about it. When someone does photography with a tablet they kind of look stupid. Add a QX-mount to it and people realize that you're serious about the photography you're doing.

If you were "serious" about photography you wouldnt be using a tablet to shoot it. Period... oh and you still look ridiculous... RIDICULOUS. Not to mention that you are still also blocking someone behind you with your 10" viewfinder.

I cant STAND seeing people take pics and video with tablets... they need to be smacked...hard

Yes this is a step to far. I see people walking around all the time at our state parks snapping picture with tablets. I think it is insane. If you want to take this type of photo get a DSLR camera.

I'm actually happy about this. I've been wanting one of those cameras for my Note 2 but the current mount doesn't fit. This one will work so I hope it comes to the US.

Despite what companies want you to believe, megapixels mean almost nothing when it comes to image quality.

Maybe not nothing, but very little. My old 3 megapixel Canon D30 DSLR still takes a far better picture than the typical 8-10 megapixel point and shoot.

Ya megapixels aren't everything I mean your right a 3 mp camera could have a bigger and better sensor with better optics

In case you didnt look stupid enough taking pictures with your tablet, Sony's new product ensure that you will, in fact, out stupify all other tablet photo takers.

Contrary to your beliefs, some people don't really care if people like you think they're stupid for doing something differently than you.

Using the biggest damn tablet you can find lol

I agree with everyone here. I see people taking their tablets, mostly iPads, to theme parks and taking pictures. Lol

I say it's Sony. Let them do these crazy ideas because it shows they are unafraid to be innovative. Would I ever put it on a ten inch tablet? No. I would hold it in my hand and take a picture without it attached. The qx series would never of been released if Sony was afraid to do things a little crazy.

I don't know if it would be that useful to have that camera in one of your pockets when it comes to smartphones and I wouldn't shoot pictures with a tablet. I prefer different approaches than this one. I think that it isn't as fast to use as it should be. You miss the perfect moment. But for something static, sure, it might work.

Well...if there's a market for it...

Honestly, since I think the QX lenses are better to be used NOT attached to anything, I couldn't care less if they're paired with a smartphone or a tablet. Actually, I think pairing a QX100 to a tablet would be more beneficial to the end result of the photos than to a smartphone.

That said, mounting it on the tablet is just stupid. But then again, I will never understand people who take photos with the crappy cameras in the tablets. I would never use a tablet to snap photos of anything. Not even Nokia's tablet.
But hey...to each their own.

Sony makes a 20" Windows tablet. Can I use that? What about a TV, can I mount it to my 32" Sony Brazia? Or tether it to my Smart Watch directly? Or to Google Glasses? WHAT NEXT, SONY? WHAT NEXT?

Why are people taking tablets to places with abundant photo opportunities anyway? Why travel anywhere if all you're going to do is stare at your tablet when you get there? It's bad enough that people carry their tablets with them at all times in public.

Let's please not encourage these people.

This is a horrible accessory that does just that, people whipping these out at school assemblies and blocking my Nikon D3000 when I'm 4 rows behind them using my 18-120 lens and my shot gets changed from almost being a picture of one of my 3 kids to instead being the back of an effing Ipad.

Unclassy, not cool, and it shows just how little people regard others around them.

After reading, I'm convinced. I now want nothing more than to do this, just to annoy all of you.

It's all I can think about.
