The Kyocera Hydro Vibe: waterproof and shock resistant for Sprint and Virgin Mobile

Sprint announced the Kyocera Hydro Vibe is launching on May 9, this Friday, and coming to Virgin Mobile on May 27. Though it isn't quite as sexy as the name would suggest, it is waterproof and affordable. For $149.99 up front or $0 and $9.59/month over two years, you get Android 4.3, a 4.5-inch qHD display, 8 megapixel camera, 2,000 mAh battery, 1.2 Ghz quad-core Snapdragon processor, and Sprint Spark support.

You can get a full tour of the Hydro Vibe at Kyocera's landing page, or you can keep an eye out for it in the Sprint online store.

It's easy enough to scoff at the lower-end stuff with the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One (M8) and other high-end heavyweights coming around, but as far as pure bang-for-buck value goes, we were reasonably impressed with the last Kyocera Hydro device we looked at. Anyone looking for a budget device, or are smartphones a "go big or go home" situation for you?

This may be a perfect Virgin Mobile phone for my wife. VM's Android selection is pretty poor at this point - so any addition is welcome.

yea, their phone selection is pretty bland.. but the Desire 601 is a nice one & virgin mobile is also launching the Galaxy S5 soon, check the website. (month or two)

My wife has virgin mobile now, and isn't too worried about specs as long as she can get on Facebook.. This seems like a good phone for her.

I like budget phones like this.. This helps bring people who can't afford Contract plans and super powerful phones the chance to have a smartphone that can run a large majority of Android apps just fine (a 1.2 ghz Quadcore is nothing to shake a stick at when you consider where Top tier Android phones were just two years ago). My mom (Who has Virgin mobile) and not a tech person may want one of these. (Mother's day anyone?)

As long as Spotify and Facebook works she's happy

Is it just me, or does anyone else find amusing there's a large number of gentlemen here openly stating their wives would like a hydro vibe...? (openly admit to my juvenile gutter humor)

Nope, first thing I thought of when I saw the name was adult toy. Of course, I am perpetually stuck in a 14 year old mind set...

Preach on, brother.

A waterproof vibe?

I'm not exactly sure they thought this name/ad out throughly.

mtmerrick says:

Not just a waterproof vibe, but a waterproof vibe for Virgin. SMH. Seriously, who comes up with these names?

MarkSeven says:

Lol..Obviously they have more than just phones on their minds over there..

I wonder if it has different vibrating speeds..

mtmerrick says:

now imagine the bitter irony if it lacked haptic feedback. xD
