HTC Hero S

The HTC Hero S is now available from US Cellular, and it looks like a great upgrade from it's older namesake.  Sitting right on the cusp between mid-range and high-end, the Hero S rocks a 4-inch qHD super LCD, a single core 1.2GHz Qualcomm CPU, dual cameras (5MP in the back, 1.3MP around front), and what appears to be HTC Sense 2.1 built on top of Gingerbread.  The Hero S will cost $199 after a $100 rebate for new customers, or Belief plan members.

With an older version of HTC Sense, and a high clock speed single core CPU, this thing will probably rock your socks off.  And if you're not into great big phones, it looks like a great choice.  As an original Hero owner lover, I think it's a great way to carry on the name.  All it's missing is the trackball.

Sense 2.1 tho? And it looks like the Evo.

Does it have the little lip at the bottom? I loved that about the EU version of the phone. Looked so much cooler than the US version.

I loved my hero as well. And this is a much needed improvement to the line. I'm surprised Sprint didn't snatch this up.

I'm still sad that no new HTC phones include trackballs/trackpads any more. Text editing is far easier with a trackball (even with the new gingerbread drag handles), as is doing crossword puzzles. The Desire Z was over a year ago, and I haven't seen any trackball/trackpad devices since then.

Don't even get me started on the lack of the green "phone" button...

+1 on both points.

Couldn't agree more on the trackball, I understand the trackball may be outdated but at least throw in an optical trackpad or something? I loved the Trackpad on my G2

US Cellular is advertising this phone as having Sense 3.0.
