Sony closes down its European online store, redirects consumers to partners

Sony has closed its online store in Europe. Should you wish to purchase a product from the company in the region, you'll need to choose one of Sony's partners. The main European website for Sony now acts as a gateway for consumers to read up more on its catalogue, while offloading sales to partnered stores.

Sony's move to close its Europe store may come as a surprise to those who will suddenly have to shop through the likes of Currys, John Lewis, Jessops and more. Customers who used the sibling store in the US, which ceased operations last month, luckily received ample warning prior to closure.

Attempting to visit the EU store now redirects you to the main Sony homepage.

  • I don't wanna be rude, but Sony's smartphone strategy is odd to me. A new flagship every 6 months is too soon and too quick IMHO. Here lies the "2016 Flagship Killer". It got slayed by 2015 flagships like the LG G4 being used to post this.
  • yeah they're kinda like HTC, seems like they get to around 75% and just give up.
  • A damn shame, really. I really like their devices, but their strategy is always somewhat off to me. I wish they actually took the US market seriously. The Korean Duo (Samsung and LG) already make up an overwhelming majority of Android's market share in the US, for example. Here lies the "2016 Flagship Killer". • Didn't understand the htc comparison? Posted via the Android Central App
  • Every 6 month is ok. But the flagship phone is almost the same. Posted via the Android Central App
  • The phones are almost the same BECAUSE of the 6 month cycle. Technology takes time to be developed, it doesn't just "happen" in 6 months (of which at least 2 require the phone to be already made to move on to testing)
  • You do realize it's once a year now.... Z3+ only launched in japan.... Posted via the Android Central App
  • Uh, the Z3+ was called the Z4 in Japan. It was sold in Europe and Asia as the Z3+ Here lies the "2016 Flagship Killer". It got slayed by 2015 flagships like the LG G4 being used to post this.
  • Sony is on a huge downward spiral it seems like to me. Never anything great, always something somewhat negative. Something always closing, cutting back on jobs, or cutting back on production.... Posted via the Android Central App
  • Anything that isn't PlayStation or cameras, really. They seem to always handle the console well and their mirrorless cameras are great for the price. I wish they would just end the TV and phone business to focus more on cameras, audio, and games. Posted via the Android Central App
  • No more Vaio
    No more online stores
    Over priced phones
6 months cycles Posted via the Android Central App
  • Ew what the hell? I hate buying from Currys or Argos they're absolute garbage! I just hope Amazon stock everything from each Sony launch. I really liked Sony but this is really going to make me reconsider buying something Sony over anything else. Posted via the Android Central App
  • UK store is still taking pre-orders. It hasn't been affected by this.
  • Well.. Truth be told it was always more expensive to buy from Sony's own website than from any other retailer across Europe. So I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't sell a lot through their website in the first place. Besides it's not like we're in America, we can actually get Sony products anywhere at any tech store. We're not bound to carriers at all so...meh. All this though just shows how badly Sony is sinking and honestly they only have themselves to blame. And unlike other companies *coughnokiacough* they can't even blame a Trojan Horse for it. Posted via the Android Central App
