Samsung reportedly preparing to launch the Galaxy S5 Neo

According to SamMobile, the Galaxy S5 Neo will come with a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display (1080p), 16GB of internal storage, 2GB RAM, 16-MP rear shooter, and a 2,800mAh battery to power everything. It's almost identical to the original Galaxy S5, aside from the processor, front-facing camera and network connectivity.

Samsung has opted to include a 64-bit octa-core Exynos 7580 processor, 5-MP front-facing selfie machine and will arrive as both single- and dual-SIM variants. Both versions are expected to arrive with Android 5.1 Lollipop installed. While the Galaxy S5 Neo is a less powerful version of the Galaxy S5, according to the report, it may prove a popular purchase for those who don't require a flagship handset.

No details were provided for availability or pricing. As with any rumor, we'll recommend you take these specifications with a grain of salt.

  • What's the point...? Samsung already has a million phones for everyone's needs... Posted via the Android Central App
  • Meh... We will throw one more crap into a bunch and no one will notice. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Didn't they say they were going to stop launching a different device every week? Posted via the Android Central App
  • Yep, now they're just launching two every other week. Posted via the AC App on my Nexus 6
  • Must really suck to write an article and know that there are going to be so many whiners and complainers! AC to start putting in the headlines of mid range phones "this story is not for phone snobs". That way people can move on without reading and than complaining. Posted via the Android Central App
  • in fairness, this IS a sorta silly phone...
  • Its not just A mid ranged phone...Its Samsung's THOUSANDTH midrange just seems silly now. Posted via the Android Central App
  • What's next??? Galaxy S Duos 4??? Wait a minute, it's a freaking low end phone. Why does it have S in the name??? Also why was the dual sim version of ace 4 rebranded as s duos 3??? Posted via the Android Central App
  • How is this weaker? Posted via the Android Central App
  • Should have called it an s6 mini. For those that like the smaller screens this is not a bad device. Sent via carrier duck. They were out of pigeons
  • It's the same 5.1" screen
  • Lol... Nice joke on not a bad device. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Ha has a bigger battery than the galaxy s6 and edge Posted via the Android Central App
  • I'm in agreement with the others, this is pointless release - another phone model to support (or ignore 6 months down the line) and another one to confuse customers who aren't techies. I guess this is all about getting rid of a huge inventory of different parts. Samsung have probably got the biggest array of different CPUs, radios, camera sensors etc. Dunno why they can't reduce this number down and use common parts on more of their models. It would sure help when it comes to optimising the platform, testing and ironing out bugs. Than again, once the sale is made I guess they couldn't care less. Hope this doesn't mean that they'll cut support for the S5.
  • I've never understood why Samsung always releases so many variations of their devices... why not just stick to the S6 and the Note 5 (with each one having the Edge variation) - it just never made sense to me, seems like it would be a waste of resources...
  • Because they make money on people seeing that it's a Samsung device that is cheaper than most, not because it's a mid range phone. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Why not buy an old s5 for $300 off eBay? Posted via Android Central App on 1+1
  • Because this one uses Exynos 64-bit processors. In other words, Samsung chip +lower resolution screen +removable battery +water resistance +sdcard slot. Did somebody say S6 Mini? Galaxy Note 4 {Sprint Lollipop}
    Galaxy S III {FreedomPop 4.3}
    LG G2 {Sprint 4.4.2}
  • Didn't Samsung say last year that they were going to minimize the number of phones released and focus on quality?
