HTC is sending out invitations for a closed Sense Home 8 beta on non-HTC phones

HTC has been decoupling its apps for some time, and the vendor is now sending out invitations for beta testers to try out Sense 8 Home — the launcher on the HTC 10 — on non-HTC phones. The requirements for the closed beta include a non-HTC Android phone that's running Android 4.4 KitKat and above.

Here's one such email forwarded to us by a reader:

HTC Sense Home 8 beta

With Freestyle layouts and a Material Design look and feel, HTC's Sense Home 8 offers an interface that's similar to vanilla Android, while providing a lot of customization options. It'll certainly be interesting to see if HTC actually manages to offer its stock launcher on non-HTC hardware, as it is one of the best-looking interfaces from a mainstream vendor.

What do you guys be interested in installing HTC's stock launcher on a phone by a different vendor? Let us know in the comments.

Thanks Andrew and Timothy!

I'm guessing the invitation for this thing is allready over.
I've applied, kinda curious how Sense 8.0 will act on my Nexus 6p, best of both worlds?

  • Actually I've already tested sense home 7.0 on my moto g3.... Was pretty great but I think my default launcher was better... I don't know why, whatever launcher I go to, Google now launcher always makes me come back. Posted via the Android Central App
  • It's the swipe right to Google Now thing that makes everyone come back to GNL.
  • Hell yeah I'd be interested. That's probably the next best skin behind stock Android in terms of smoothness and fluidity. Posted with my Axon Pro.

  • Since I wasn't allowed to play with my better half's htc 10 when it came in, I never got to play with sense 8. So this will be great! I use nova on my 6p, and did on my nexus 6 as well. I loved sense on my htc one m7, and heck even on the evo 3d, so I'll be glad to see what all new features there are, and it helps me become familiar with it so I can help him out when he needs it. • Got email and signed up. We shall see..
  • Of course!!! I would love to! I had HTC One M7 and now S7 edge, I hate the Touchwiz and finding a way to root and have HTC ROM on this device but looks like its impossible as of now! I would love to try it out!
  • Why not just buy HTC's phones instead of trying to jump through hoops?
  • Because not everyone is in a position to upgrade. Posted via the Android Central App
  • There are a few hardware advantages, the camera and screen on the S7 are objectively better, someone might like the ergonomics of the S7 over the HTC. There are plenty of reasons.
  • Sure...wuld like too Posted via the Android Central App
  • I would most definitely love to try Sense. I've always been a fan of their launcher and consider it to be the best among OEMs, after Vanilla Android. Hope HTC decides to actually release it for other phones. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I most definitely would. Spent 5 glorious years with Sense on the Desire HD and M7. Went to a Moto X Play having got bored of waiting for the 10 to come out. Wish I'd been patient!
  • Sure would. Had an HTC M9 prior to my current Samsung S7 Edge. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Can I get it on my M9 first Posted via the Android Central App
  • lol
  • I am always willing to try something new so yes please!!!
  • I never liked HTC's UI. If you want to try HTC's apks, just head over to http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/htc-corporation/
  • Definitely would be interested. I've heard nothing but good things, and owned a t-mobile g-touch slide back in the day, which had a similar launcher to sense (I believe) Posted via the Android Central App
  • its a great news...definitely i am interested ,send me
  • Definitely!! Can't wait to try it Posted via the Android Central App
  • I have have always thought that HTC understands how to but a nice looking skin on top of Android if I had to live with one I would take sense over touch wiz anyday. Posted via the Android Central App
