Google Home Mini: Everything you need to know

Google has announced a smaller, cheaper Home speaker, the Google Home Mini. Here's what you need to know!

What is it?

It's a Google Home, but smaller! It's both voice- and touch-enabled, similar to the larger Google Home. And while the speaker isn't quite as powerful as Home, Google says that the rounded design allows for 360-degree sound that can fill a room. And the fabric surrounding the speaker makes it attractive and easy to integrate into any decor.

It also connects to any Chromecast Audio speaker if you need bigger, brighter sound.

Google announces Home Mini speaker for $49

How much will it cost?

$49 in the U.S., and $80 in Canada.

What colors will it be available in?

Coral, Chalk, and Charcoal.

When will be it available?

Pre-orders are now available, and it will ship October 19.

Where will it be available?

All the countries Google Home is currently available!

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • France
  • Germany
  • UK
  • Japan
  • U.S.

  • Never had a Google Home but the Mini grabs my attention. What I like lost is that you can send messages or talk to other Minis in other rooms. Very good for our family home.
  • Disappointed that you still need a Chromecast Audio to use external speakers and there is still no default setting to avoid having to tell Home to cast to external speakers every single time.
  • Is Google WiFi built into the Home Mini?
If not, why would anyone want multiple little gadgets.
  • $49 USD or $80 CAD??? Do they have something against canada? $49USD converts to $61CAD. I guess it's nothing the Europeans aren't already used to. Except I can drive 45min south and pick one up in the US, guess I'll be doing that.
  • This will be mine.
  • Anyone figured out how to preorder on Walmart using Google Express to get $25 discount? Google Express doesn't seem to find the item available on Walmart...
  • I asked the same question from their customer service. After you link your Wal-Mart accout to Google express then you can just pre-order from Wal-Mart . com. After you receive them and active them before the "required date" then you will receive your coupon to spend on Google express. It's almost like buying one and getting one free (max 2 coupons per household).
We spend that easily at Wal-Mart just now we will have to spend the $50 on express instead of going to the store... Their way of getting you to use express.
  • I'm obviously missing something... Buying a $49 item and getting a $25 coupon - how do you get - ”it's almost like buying one and getting one free”?
  • The article has an error. Google Home is not currently available in Japan.
  • Curious why they went with micro usb connection, instead of USB-C.
  • I wondered the same thing. Afterall, that's what comes with the Pixels.
  • I want date time day temperature on my home page on top page
