Getting word this morning that those of you with Motorola Droids, the Droid Eris and just about any other device that connects to Verizon are having issues with data connections. Some seem to have it back, while others are still in the dark. Stay tuned while we have some coffee and croissants get to the bottom of this.

(Droid Owner) My data was out in Akron/Canton area and was returned around 8:30. Could it be testing for an OTA to 2.1? May it be so.

Service was out in metro-Toledo Ohio area this morning but returned around 9:40, but is running a bit slow as of now. Seems to be cascading from east to west.

Both my Storm2 & Eris couldn't make calls from home and I've never had any signal issues at home. The internet worked on both though. So I called customer care and they put in a stupid trouble ticket saying they'll get back to me within 72hrs.... But that was yesterday. Now it seems my service is back to normal now hopefully... i still love VZW though.

Some Verizon Wireless customers in the eastern half of the U.S. were temporarily left without access to data services such as mobile Web and email early Wednesday.

The network outage, which was resolved by 8:15 a.m. ET, affected customers of "east of the Mississippi," according to spokesman James Gerace. He cited "bad switch software" which resulted in a deterioration of service and lower wireless speeds.

Not everyone in the area was affected, Gerace said. Data access in New York, for instance, continued to work Wednesday.

I have a Moto Droid and my 3G connection was out for a bit in the Akron area this morning also. I rebooted the phone and the 3G came back up right after, but I don't know if that was a coincidence or not.

Computerworld - Verizon Wireless has confirmed that data service outages affected eastern U.S. customers for up to four hours early today.

The company blamed the outage, which affected some users between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. EST today, on defective software in one of its data centers.

In an e-mail, a Verizon Wireless spokesman said some users experienced outages, some were hit with service slowdowns and others were not affected at all.

"We found the problem in one of our centers, switched out the software and are now doing [a] root cause investigation," the spokesman said.

Verizon Wireless notified customers via Twitter at about 9:45 a.m. that the issue had been resolved by 8 a.m.

The spokesman did not say how many users were affected by the outage.

Verizon said that the problems did not affect its voice service.

I was fine yesterday, but is anyone else having data issues today? My 3G is flat-out just not working, or going incredibly slow. Mid-Michigan.

[update] Things seem back to normal now.
