Verizon LTE coverage

Verizon has unleashed a bevy of press releases -- 16 in all, if you count one market getting two  releases -- announcing expansion of its 4G LTE network to some 22 markets, and the expansion of two others. That means if you have the HTC ThunderBolt, LG Revolution, Motorola Droid Bionic, Samsung Droid Charge or Verizon's LTE version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, you'll be able to take advantage of the faster data speeds.

Starting Oct. 20 (or maybe even a day or so sooner if tradition continues), the following markets will see 4G LTE:

  • Fort Myers, Fla. (LTE currently is available in the airport)
  • Buffalo/Niagara, N.Y.
  • Sioux City, Iowa
  • Terre Haute, Ind.
  • Albuquerque, N.M.
  • Birmingham, Ala. (The footprint will also extend out I-65 North to Cullman, I-59 North to Springville, I-20 East to Moody, Highway 280 East to Harpersville, I-65 South to Calera, I-59 West to Bessemer and Highway 78 West to Jasper.)
  • Santa Fe, N.M.
  • Evansville, Ind.
  • Bloomington, Bedford and Mitchcell, Ind.
  • South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Elkhart, and Goshen, Ind.
  • Green Bay, Wis.
  • Modesto, Calif.
  • Stockton, Calif.
  • Hagerstown and Western Maryland
  • Expansion in Los Angeles and San Diego

If you're in or around any of those areas, get ready for some seriously fast data speeds. And maybe consider a spare battery -- that LTE likes the juice.

Verizon lighting up more 4G LTE markets on Oct. 20

CORRECTION!!! That's Niagara Falls, New York. NOT Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. People think Niagara and automatically assume it's Canada for some reason, lol

It's great to see my city on there right around the time that VZW is expected to be releasing their Nexus phone.

Okay now I have been hearing for the last month and a half that Richmond was getting LTE in October and from two good sources and now what......

Friend of mine just got a Droid Bionic and says he gets 4g in Richmond but it is spotty. They must be in testing phases now.

That is a serious footprint around Birmingham, especially where they go north all the way to Cullman and west to Jasper. Once they light up Tuscaloosa, they're going to have this part of the state covered quite well. BTW, does anyone know how far down I-65 the Huntsville footprint goes? I wonder if they're going to meet somewhere around Cullman.

And AT&T is doing...what, exactly? Are they even expanding 3G anymore?

The footprint for LTE currently extends down to Hartselle al where it start will become spotty. This is HUGE for alabam especially in this area where AT&T is grabage to begin with that 4g will seal the deal on customers in cullman

(i drive from huntsville to cullman everyday)

Whoo-Hoo! Finally getting 4G LTE in my area of So Cal.

Let's go Moto / Verizon and get the XOOM update rolling.

Finally! The rest of Indiana is getting some LTE love. And one week later = galaxy nexus. I am the happiest little Android

Holy crap, Buffalo finally gets some 4G love? Awesome!

I'm not even on Verizon, but at least now I'll have carrier options in the future.

Agreed. Almost makes me sad I jumped to Sprint, but then I look at Verizon's tiered data plans...if Sprint ever changes over to that, I'll probably end up jumping back if Sprint doesn't get their 4G act together.

Sprint is not stupid. They know that the only thing keeping them in the race is unlimited data. Being a Sprint customer in a Wimax covered city, I realized that if they lose unlimited data I personally would jump straight to Verizon.

Verizon = faster network
Sprint = unlimited access to a slightly slower network

Anyone who had a Verizon data plan before the switch to tiered data are grandfathered into unlimited data & can keep it when they switch to LTE.

So now that LTE is coming to my city on Oct.20 I can upgrate to a Bionic or the VZW Nexus (when it comes out) & have unlimited LTE. Sprint, on the other hand, doesn't have WiMax in my area & never will now that they are dumping it for LTE.

My Birthday is 10-19, Albuquerque goes live with LTE on 10-20, and I'm already eligible for an upgrade. Life is good :)

We finally are going to get lte in Hampton roads. I was getting a little worried for awhile there.

Woohooo!!!! Gonna finally get some LTE luv in the BHam!

I’ve been checking the Verizon News site frequently and almost fell out of my chair yesterday when I read this! No more trips to Montgomery for some LTE “testing”. ;P

I had heard a while back that the tornados at the end of April destroyed some cell towers and damaged others delaying the deployment (were supposed to go live same time as Mobile and Montgomery otherwise). Tuscaloosa was hit pretty hard. May be why they're not scheduled yet.

I have a good friend from tuscaloosa Al.. I am up in Boston.. She is a sweet heart... I saw some of the pictures from there.. Wow got hit hard

I just visited the Buffalo area and Niagara Falls over Labor Day. I was surprised that there was no 4G at the time.

Anyone know if VZW is going to upgrade all 3g towers our just the ones in major metropolitan areas ?

Eventually all 3G towers will be upgraded to 4G, but they obviously upgrade metropolitan areas first since they can reach more of their customers quicker that way.

I'll care more when Verizon gets around to building a pay-as-you-go service for 4G/LTE ... I don't want to pay $50/month for the Google IO hotspot for 5GB of data whether I use it or not.
