HTC Merge

Tired of waiting on the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus? Could we, perhaps, interest you in another sought-after Verizon smartphone that was all rendered extinct without ever really being launched?

What you see here, according to AllTechEverything, is an ad from a newspaper (ask your parents) in Greensboro, N.C. And at the bottom of that pyramid there is a $49 buy-one-get-two-free offer for none other than the Verizon HTC Merge.

Why's that a big deal? The Verzon HTC Merge, as you'll recall, is that mythical phone we got an exclusive look at way back in late August 2010. Rumored launch dates came and went, and the Merge was never really officially released on Verizon, put out to pasture as some sort of online/third-party only deal. Sad, really. It was a great phone.

Anyhoo, if you're in or around Greensboro and are jonesing for the greatest phone that never was, maybe swing by and see what you can see.

The Verizon HTC Merge? It's a Christmas miracle!

OMG my white whale! My once ultimate phone!
This is so odd I don't know how to feel about this at this point.
I've been looking for a decent KB Android phone to cure my wife of her BlackBerry addiction. Perhaps this is the phone (assuming the keyboard translates for her)- and then I could steal time alone with my precious.

Wait for the D4, at least it will have LTE. I know it'll be more expensive, but it's going to be a much better user experience for her. It's only 2 weeks away from launch.

The Merge's specs were out of date a year ago when it was first revealed. You will pay the same $2000 over the next 2 years but won't have LTE... and it has Bing.

Merge Specs:
SIZE: Overall the Merge is 4.76" x 2.4" x 0.55' = 6.31 in³
WEIGHT: The Merge is 6.98 oz.
RAM: 512MB
CPU: 800 MHz
SCREEN: 3.8"

The Merge has half the RAM, lower def, and is heavier and bigger overall than the Galaxy Nexus, RAZR, Nitro, Bionic, EVO 3D, Sensation, Photon, and Atrix 2.

If you are going to get a phone as big as the Merge, why not get the 5.3" Note. The Note weighs less and is HD.

With those specs is it even possible that it will see Ice Cream Sandwich?

Yeah ... but it's THE MERGE!!! ;)

I know its underpowered, but I've not seen a horizontal slider KB that looks as inviting as the one the Merge has. Back then and now it is the keyboard that would be the motivation. Unless things drastically change the D4 will still have a junky KB that nobody uses after the 1st week.

Also, it'd be for my wife who only cares about email and facebook and having a decent keyboard for both so speed is not really a factor.

Plus, it's THE MERGE!!! I must ... Merge with it like this:

Likely, it will come with Froyo with little chance of manufacturer support and the chance any devs will work with it are slim to none, but It's ... well you know the rest.

I should have said something months ago, but my friend has a Verizon branded merge, he bought it from the local Verizon store in Kingsland, GA. I was confused, too, but I just figured nobody cared about the Merge anymore.

A year late to the party. Wonder how many they would sell vs the current droids? I think this is a Galaxy Nexus omen to be quite honest.

Ugh.. this is the phone I wanted forever and ever, finally got a Droid Incredible on launch day because I was tired of waiting on Verizon to get a QWERTY HTC slider.

I want one of these in the worst way. I still want the Galaxy Nexus though. I'm thinking about waiting to get a white one, because you know it's going to happen.

I saw a dummy unit in the Concord, NC store a couple of days ago but couldn't figure out what the heck it was since it wasn't labeled and I didn't even think of the Merge.

First, is this a Verizon ad or is it an ad for a third-party dealer who works exclusively with Verizon?

Second, who wants a Bing-ified phone that was so late to appear? Unless the uber-belated Merge comes now with a pure build of ICS, I don't see the appeal anymore.

This phone has been our for almost 6 months. The phone was exclusively sold to an Authorized Retailer "Cellular Sales".

I am in Greensboro but I am at work. I will go check it out after work but I seriously doubt that I would get this phone. I just want to see it live and in person.

I was on the phone with Verizon support a few days ago asking about their LTE outage, and during the conversation the guy referenced the Merge. I thought he must be the kind of guy who comes to sites like this, but now I think maybe they had recently received training on them.

You can see the ad is for cellularsales an authorized reseller of Verizon so that makes some sense they have a few locations here around Charlotte. Who knew our little Charlotte, NC would be at the center of such a big national controversy. How exciting! Does my hair look ok?

I called my local Verizon store and the guy was clueless - said the phone was discontinued. However, I called a Cellular Sales outlet about an hour from me (StL) and they have them - $149.99. :-( I was gonna get this for my wife for Christmas if I could get it for $50, but I can get the Dinc2 for free-ninety-free.

The tree of fragmentation......they all look about the same they actually have that many differences to have that many models to mix up the regular consumer?

At this point why even consider this phone? You can pick up the Stratosphere for free at a number of outlets.Verizon's just screwing with us now....

If this came out when it first was leaked I would have this in my hands instead of the tbolt. Thank You verizon for tossing this to the side. only plus would of been a rockin keyboard..

Hi All, I got one in August here in Ft. Lauderdale. What a super phone. Just great. I used $30 customer reward from Verizon, gave them my old Blackbery Storm 2 as a trade and $30 out the door. Never been happier with a cell phone since my old "Brick" in the early nineties.

I just got one in a tiny southeast Texas town at the Verizon Wireless store and yes, it's ran by Cellular Sales. It was marked at $149 but when I told the salesman no, he changed his tune fast - so fast I was a bit suspicious. I got the Merge for $50 and a flip phone for $50 but the latter has a $50 rebate. While the Merge is not the latest and greatest, the word I'm getting is that it has a growing "ghost" value. Almost a collectability value because it's so hard to find.
