Honami

Big screen, Sony G Lens, 20.7-megapixel 1/2.3-inch sensor

Another day, another set of leaked photos of Sony's upcoming flagship phone for late 2013, the "Honami" or "Xperia i1." Four fresh images have popped up on Chinese forum Digi-Wo, seemingly confirming a few details about the device's impressive rear camera. Branding around the camera assembly itself points to a Sony G lens and a 20.7-megapixel 1/2.3-inch sensor (a step down from the rumored 1/1.6-inch sensor size.)

Another of the photos gives us a closer look at the outer trim of the device, revealing a more curved edge than that of the Xperia Z, and an Xperia Z Ultra-style magnetic charging port. There are also side-by-side shots with the iPhone and Xperia Z, and the latter in particular shows a significant size increase, possibly indicating the presence of a five-plus-inch screen.

Between all the various photo leaks we've already got a pretty good idea what the "Honami" will look like. But we'll have to wait on the official announcement, likely to take a place on Sept. 4 ahead of IFA 2013, before we learn more about what Sony's latest device can do, and when we'll be able to get our hands on it. In the meantime, you'll find more pics after the break.

If this got released in all markets at the same time it would be nice. It will take 4 months to make it state side. Additionally, carriers for whatever reason seem to give Sony the cold shoulder. Eh, whatever... I'll buy it unlocked and take my business where I see fit.

It might head stateside a bit sooner this time around, it already went through the FCC a couple of weeks ago so hopefully that means they already have it planned coming here soon

agree, flashback of pub experience, attracted by the back, when turned around, the front got me all disappointed.

The X Tablet Z also has a big bezel which confused me until I bought one. Now it makes perfect sense! You can hold it on the sides while watching a video in landscape mode without touching the screen or having to barely touch the front. Probably makes more sense on a tablet, but for a big phone it works as well.

You can also make Hotcakes on the bezel and watch your favorite soap opera or a video of how to make hotcakes on huge bezels.

Dat bezel? What a bummer. Of course it makes sense on a tablet, but definiely not a phone or even a phablet (especially?). Not a huge fan of the design in general. Build quality looks great, but such sharp edges. Very nice specs though. I'm rooting for Sony to build a Nexus one day. It would be a good fit and could be a great partnership for Google and Sony.

Yeah, but you can't drop the Moto X in the urinal at 2AM in the club like you can Sony's line of waterproof phones. Nothing says awesome like a piss-proof phone.

If your phone drops in a club bathroom is gone, or you will. Who knows all the diseases you could get from it

If this comes to AT&T it's going to be a hard choice between this and the Note 3. I've been up for a new phone for almost a year now and just can't decide when to pull the trigger.

What is with these ridiculous camera resolutions? No way in heck that tiny lens can properly resolve 20.7 Megapixels.

For some reason I want a Sony Xperia Z. I like the design, specs, and the waterproofness (if that's a word). But I'll wait to see what Google gives us as the next Nexus phone. Hopefully a Sony!

Now that rumors suggest the Nexus 5 will be a slight downgrade of the G2, this phone has become the front runner as my upgrade this year. The only thing I dread is the idea of switching to T-Mobile!
