We're nearing the end of 2009, and that means top 10 lists galore. And here comes Time's top 10 gadgets of the year. And -- surprise, surprise -- the No. 1 pick isn't the iPhone 3GS. It's not the Nook. Couldn't be the Kindle. It is, in fact, the Motorola Droid. Tipping the scales for the glowing red eye that could is the large screen, full QWERTY keyboard (really?) and its integration with Google. (OK, two out of three ain't bad.) The Droid's excellent navigation also gets a nod, as it should. Here's the breakdown:

The Droid is a hefty beast, a metal behemoth without the gloss and finish of the iPhone, but you don't miss it. The Droid's touchscreen is phenomenally sharp and vivid, it has an actual physical (not great, but good enough) keyboard, and best of all, the Droid is on Verizon's best-of-breed 3G network.

Congrats, Moto. Now let's get that Android 2.0.1 update out to the rest of us, m'kay?

Now can the iPhone fanboys stop saying how much the DROID sucks, and how it is a piece of ___, and all that other stuff?

It's got its recognition, and I think everyone, regardless of your opinion, should respect that.

Of course, DROID still has plenty of improvements to be made where Apple whoops it...

Do you really think that this is going to shut up a fanboy? Lol. I loved my iPhone, my Storm, and now my Droid. Fanboys are in love with their device of choice and will fight tooth and nail to tell you how crappy your choice is if it isn't the same as theirs. There is no hope for a fanboy!

Congratulations to the droid-developers for nailing this one down.
Not to say, that Droid is flawless, but it does poked the iphone-kind
with its disadvantages - And now droid is celebrating.

Was the timing of droid being no.1 gadget, too overrated?

Motorola has really turned themselves around with this device. Good for them. Especially when this is territory that HTC was seemingly more heavily invested in. Maybe it will finally push HTC to release the delayed Passion/Dragon... Either way Motorola has stolen a lot of HTC's thunder in the Android arena.

Well, it is. In case you didn't know, Verizon actually contracted with Motorola to make the phone. Motorola didn't dream it up on their own and approach Verizon.

HaHaHaHaHaHa!

Crap physical keyboard, crap camera, lousy media player, buggy OS, mediocre build-quality, dodgy exchange email implementation... I could go on. Gadget of the Year? You've got to be kidding.
