Sony 'Xperia i1' could be unveiled at pre-IFA press conference

It seems Sony will hold its IFA press conference on Sep. 4 (the same day Samsung's doing its thing), and one device that's likely to make an appearance is the Japanese manufacturer's upcoming flagship handset, know by its codename "Honami." The device, which is also rumored to go to market as the "Xperia i1," will reportedly pack a Snapdragon 800 CPU, a five-inch-plus display and a 20-megapixel rear camera with Sony G lens.

We've already witnessed plenty of leaked photos of the Honami, but this latest image supposedly comes directly from Sony in the form of a teaser for its IFA press conference. Leaked through Chinese forum Digi-Wo, the image outs the Sep. 4 announcement date, and shows what seems to be the right edge of the handset. There's the trademark rounded power button in the center, a volume rocker below it, and what might be a SIM tray further up. And like Xperias Z and Z Ultra, it looks like the Honami will be offered in a purple color option too.

The original poster claims that a Chinese release will be taking place soon after the Berlin announcement; hopefully the rest of the world will enjoy a similarly speedy retail launch. Whatever happens, we'll be live from IFA next month to bring you full coverage of all Sony's announcements.

Leaked Sony teaser supposedly shows upcoming 'Honami' handset

I'm hoping that it comes to AT&T. I'm really liking Sony's current offerings and the direction they are going. Their changes to stock android are minimal and they seem to be on good update schedule especially when compared to others. Although I am looking forward to see what the Note 3 and Nexus 5 have to offer. Good time to be an android fan.

Glad to be with TMO's JUMP..... new device every 6 months. If this one come to T-Mobile I will surely give it a spin. After all, if it sucks I get an upgrade 6 months later. #gottaloveit.

Honami, One Maxx, Note 3 .... .. ... oh what a good time to have an upgrade waiting. I am sure one of those three will get my money.

I would be really interested in buying this phone if it have a good 5-5.2" 1080p screen, it have to be better than the 1080p TFT screen on Xperia Z.

This fall is going to be amazing. Sony Honami, HTC Max, Iphone 5s, LG G2, Moto X, Galaxy Note 3, Nexus 5.....Damn dude.

I own a couple Sony cameras and think they could easily dominate the camera phone space. Having reservations about every recent superphone released, I'm really hoping this phone will be the one.

Considering they are one of the only companies advancing compact camera technology, I'll agree. Look at what they are able to achieve. I just wish they wouldn't focus so much on the megapixel count as opposed to getting their newer sensors into these phones.

Just look at their DSC-HX50V, 30x zoom in a camera that fits your pocket, or their RX1 with a full frame DSLR sensor in a tiny form factor or the RX100 that has their newer 1" sensor while just as small as any point and shoot.
