HTC EVO 4G LTE

Pre-orders for Sprint's newest flagship phone, the HTC EVO 4G LTE, have begun today. While we still don't have an official launch date, you can finally tell Sprint that you want one.

If you're a Sprint customer and don't know much about the new EVO, it's a pretty slick phone. It has a 4.7-inch HD Super-LCD2 display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 8 MP camera, Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), and HTC Sense 4.

The phone will be $199 with the signing of a 2-year contract and $549 without.

If you want to see what others are saying about the phone or their thoughts on pre-ordering, please check out our EVO 4G LTE Forum. This is great news for Sprint customers who have been patiently waiting for the next EVO to arrive.

I say that if you pre-order you should get it by like the 15th of May or so, a few days before the official release date (May 18th)

Thanks! Just read the forums, according to wirefly, it'll be released next Friday. So early could mean a few days before.

Sprint has not given a release date, but either way it won't be May 18. They have released the May 18 launch window devices to stores and the E4GLTE is not one of them.

Status: Thanks for pre-ordering. A shiny new HTC EVO 4G LTE is waiting for you in our warehouse. Shipping starts May 15th and we will send you an email the second it ships. Delivery should occur within 1 to 3 business days thereafter. You may continue to track the status of your order on this web page. If you have questions, check out sprint.com/preorder for more info.

Screw radio shack they put you on their on contract, and if you don't like the phone or finish your contract on the carrier and pay termination fee, they charge you a ridiculuous amount reaching sometimes $ 1000 for a phone.

I just pre order 2 of these bad boys, and will be selling both my wife's an my Epic Touch once I get these. Heck might even make some $$$ on my upgrade LoL

Just pre-ordered mine!! I can't WAIT for this phone to get released. I go on vacation next week, my luck, it'll get shipped when I am away! BOO!

I am not touching an LTE phone until AFTER LTE launches in my area. Wimax was delayed a year. I know that was Clearwires fault but I see no need to rush you in until LTE launches since I have Wimax now. By the time I get LTE, there will be better phones

I'm in the same boat. Besides, I'm still under contract, and even if LTE were launched right now (in my area), it's only 1900MHz LTE. I'm waiting for 800MHz LTE. No sense in me getting this phone now. I'll wait until next year when the full implementation is closer and the phones will support all the frequencies.

Even without LTE this is the by far the Best phone on Sprint (and probably will be for the next 6 months). Although, by next summer there will be better phones lol.

Oh, I agree. Even without LTE it's a great phone. If I weren't in contract, I'd probably get it; but I can't justify full-price for this phone, given the current roadmap of LTE on Sprint. For me, it doesn't make economic sense to buy this phone right now.

I can wait.

I've had an upgrade since October waiting for Sprint to release something that makes me want to upgrade from my Epic. This is finally it, I barely get 4G signal where I live now so the lack of LTE really doesn't matter. I just want a new top of the line phone and Sprint has delivered.

Wirefly has noted that the release day is May 18th (subject to change if necessary, of course). They are also selling it for $150. Preordered mine from sprint though!

Nice, going to head over to my corporate sprint store and buy out the rest of my contract and get one of these.

I pulled the trigger! I upgraded my orignal EVO to the new EVO 4G LTE. I really really had to ponder whether to wait for the SGS3, but there not much that shocked or awed me. I feel confident, after much research, that I was making the right decision. Also, I'm in Houston, so I do have Sprint's LTE coverage!

P.S. My birthday is next week, so this is my birthday present to myself!!!

You bring up a great point about the SGSIII. Unfortunately, the Evo LTE isn't providing shock and awe for me either. They're both awesome phones, but I just don't see anything in either that makes me want to commit this early. It's a testament to the original Evo that I wanted to buy it months before it was released, and never regretted the decision. These new phones? I'm having to think about them quite a bit.

I see 2 things about the SGS3 would get me to get it over the EVO: Rootability and that sweet picture-in-picture functionality.

Sprint gave me the big FU this morning. My contract doesn't end until June 1st, and no one was willing (or able) to bump my contract date up 24 days. I don't fell so "Premiere" at the current moment.

There is no Premiere program anymore. 2 choices, call back on the 17th (if your account is current they will bump it) or talk to Account Services about the "Buy Up" program ($45 on your next bill, upgrade date changes from 6/1->5/1)

Well, this will be my last upgrade under the Premiere program. It is a shame they are getting rid of it, as I enjoyed upgrading my phone every year. I guess I'll wait until May 17th and call again. Thanks for the info

GD it.

We bought our original EVO's a couple days after they came out (June 15th or so?) and were Premier Gold customers. I figured I might have to wait as well but when I went online to pre-order it says both phones were eligible as of Feb this year. Check online to see if they will let you order it as my contract shouldn't have officially been up until June as well.

Contract date and upgrade eligible date are two different things. Some customers got upgrades at 20 months, so if your 24 months was up in June, that would put your upgrade eligibility at Feb 1.

I'm in the same boat as you. I called Sprint 2 weeks ago and asked about that and they old me "no". My final yearly upgrade is this year and doesn't hit until the 1st of June. I guess being a 14 year customer with almost no complaints to C.S. (besides getting an Airave) doesn't mean anything.. oh well I'll just wait till the 1st :D

Hey I'm not sure if you have contacted sprint's customer service, but they might be able to help you out. Surprisingly, they help me with a early upgrade for only $45 and I don't have to pay for it until I get my next bill. The best part is that my contract was suppose to end on Aug 1st, but that changed :]

I couldn't believe I was able to get this phone for $400 cheaper because of the early upgrade. You should call them and see what you can do.

I'm in for one of these joints. Ready to step off the OG EVO. I might wait to activate the newbie, though. I'm fond of Cyanogenmod 7.2, and to go back to Sense may be more than I'd like right now so I may wait for a CM9 build for the new phone and then activate it. Just how I am, but I definitely wanted the E4GLTE handset over the SIII, which may or may not come to Sprint (who knows?).

Because I always use my backup for my Epic 4G Touch and I think that's what makes android devices..options. I really like the Evo LTE though. If the GS3 doesn't come out for a while, I'll get this.

I had to really think about the lack of removable battery. My wife and myself both have HTC phones that take the same battery, so we just grab a fresh one when our phones get low, and one of us always has a spare when we're out in case we need it.

But in the end, I decided it wasn't a deal breaker, it just means I need to worry about charging more frequently. I've had smart phones in the past that I didn't keep spare batteries, I can cope with this new beauty.

Here is my order status!

Thanks for pre-ordering. A shiny new HTC EVO 4G LTE is waiting for you in our warehouse. Shipping starts May 15th and we will send you an email the second it ships. Just pre-ordered mine! I had to call into to talk with the SERO people since the website said I had to change my plan (I have the SERO Premium 500). After talking with the SERO people on the phone, verified no change in plan is needed. AND, she said that I should be receiving my new 4G LTE on 5/10!!! Not sure if she was blowing smoke or what, but we shall see....

I went to a Best Buy store at 4pm to preorder and my receipt says "estimated date of arrival: TBD"

For me, the really weak GPS and 3G reception on my G Nexus is enough to return it in exchange for EVO LTE. Too bad since I do like the stock ics.

The HTC keyboard with directional arrows is more useful for faster text edits.

Got mine ordered from Best Buy. Using the deal they had earlier for a $50 gift card if you sign up to upgrade your phone this year as well as a $50 gift card if you trade in your old Evo.

The wording on the flyer I got in the mail from Best Buy, plus on their site, made it sound like you had to trade the EVO 4G in to get the $50 off and the $50 gift card.

Is that not the case? Could you not trade your EVO 4G and still get $50 off?

The flier at the store just says "Free $50 gift card with the purchase and 2 year activation of the Sprint HTC Evo 4G LTE". Says nothing about having to trade in anything.

My upgrade is on June 1st. I just called CS told them I wanted to pre-order the new EVO LTE. They said the best they can do is move it to the May 18th. So it seems this is the definite date its coming out. I'm gonna pre-order it from RS and pick it up next friday.

I pre-ordered one today as well, but I did it off-contract as I didn't want to extend my commitment another 2 years. I currently use a GSM unlocked Galaxy Nexus on T-Mobile and have a EVO 3D on Sprint. I loved the original EVO but have never liked the EVO 3D and then when the iPhone killed Sprint's data network I tried T-Mobile with the Amaze and really liked it. Currently the Galaxy Nexus is my daily driver, but I figure if I'm going to keep my Sprint line for another year I might as well have a phone I like on the network.

I really wanted the HTC One X but have no interest in moving to AT&T (my wife has her iPhone on AT&T and it's terrible). The One S on T-Mobile has too many limitations (no NFC so no Google Wallet, which I use a lot, small amount of on-board storage and not expandable, lower resolution screen, non-replaceable battery) that don't make it a good replacement option for my Galaxy Nexus.

The EVO 4G LTE has the features from the One X I want (the screen, the improved camera) and some additions like the kick stand, the microSD slot and the physical camera shutter button that for me actually make it better. I'd be a lot more excited about my purchase if I thought I'd see some improved network performance (Sprint 3G here in Chicago has really become horrible over the last 12 months). Who knows, maybe I'll be surprised. I've heard they've been testing 4G LTE down in Kankakee, IL which isn't far from Chicago, so maybe we'll actually have it here in the city before the end of the year.

If the EVO 4G LTE sucks, then no worries, I can unload it on eBay and at that point I'd probably just pay the ETF for my remaining year on Sprint, I can't imagine there will be a better phone in the next year that would make it worthwhile staying on (no, the Samsung Galaxy III isn't an option for me). But I'm hoping the phone itself is good enough to convince me to live with Sprint's slow 3G coverage until LTE arrives.

Trying to get them to bump me up a month and a half on my contract. I originally bought the Evo 4G in June of 2010 and had to switch contracts due to some issues with other members of our family plan. Sprint is being pretty obstinate. I'm not paying $45 for the privilege on top of an upgrade fee and an activation fee.

It doesn't really matter to me, I can just wait for the contract to end and then buy it again with both the activation fee waiver applied and another corporate discount. It's less money for them. Couldn't even get a transfer to retentions. I could even just switch to Verizon since their signal is more than twice as robust here as Sprint's is. Who knows.

Is Sprint messing with me? My contract ended on May 1st, I preordered the Evo 4g LTE this morning, and Sprint.com is saying I still have to pay around $220. Now, since the phone is $199.99 when signing a contract (which I did) and I want to use my New every Two of $150.00. Shouldn't I have to pay less than $100.00? Or am I missing something? If that's the case, I should just drop my phone number, get a new one and get the Bonus' for activating a new line with the Evo 4G LTE

According to My Manger friend Radio Shock. They will be delivering the HTC EVO LTE on Wednesday. I don't know if this means anything or not. He also said that the Galaxy SIII(3) is in the system but no date or carrier Specific...

So, Maybe they are all out already? Just received this email from sprint. CRAP!

Your order or a portion of your order is in backorder status. If you would like to select an alternate product or cancel your backordered item, please call 866-789-8292 between 8:00 a.m. EST to 11:00 p.m. EST Monday to Friday or 9:00 a.m. EST to 9:00 p.m. EST on Saturdays and Sundays. Please note that cancellation requests may not always process successfully due to the speed of warehouse processing. If you cancelled your backordered item but still received a shipment, please refuse the shipment or call us to process a return within 14 days of receipt.

Isn't that just lovely? This is after they took my payment of $220.00. If I have to wait longer then 5/18 to get this, I will be pretty pissed off!

UPDATE: Just called sprint and they told me to disregard the email... He told me my order has been sent to the warehouse for shipment. Good lord they are so screwed up over there! No wonder they are the number 3 carrier in the US.

Started the upgrade process at about 1230 EST - I need two - one of which is 24 days out from the anniversary. Round and round with the level one - on hold/off hold - finally transferred to Retentions. He offers the $45 dollar buy out but I have a $100 credit sitting on my account (who knew) but he has to call me back. About an hour later, he calls back and I'm 'all set'. 15 mins pass and no confirm emails - I call back and am given my order #'s - Plug it in to sprint.com/myorders and my order is on hold and 'please call now'. I call and because I was ordering two, it triggered fraud protection - 20 more minutes on the phone verifying I am who I am and viola! you're 'all set' (again). Bling Bling, my OG EVO lights up - here are the confirm emails - congrats, you're on backorder. Dammit.

UPDATE: My message updated to the standard - : Thanks for pre-ordering a shiny new HTC EVO 4G LTE, an email will be sent the second it ships. The launch date for this handset will be announced in the next few days, thank you for your patience. Delivery should occur within 1 to 3 business days thereafter. You may continue to track the status of your order on this web page. If you have questions, check out sprint.com/preorder for more info. Amen and thanks to the posters here for the support.

Oh man I saw the HTC One X at att today and how beautiful is that thing?!!
I really hope the EVO LTE impresses as much when available. That white One X is awesome compared to my GNexus.

I just checked my order status on sprint's website and it said back ordered even though I got my order in right at 8 this morning. I just called them and they said my phone is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. I hope this is true.

Talk about the left not knowing what the right is doing! The level one rep must have said 'nothing is guaranteed' a dozen times. Thank goodness for AC forums or I would've never known there was a 'retention' department. Good luck!

I'm hoping I don't get jerked on this...I pre ordered at exactly 9am est got my email...then got a back ordered email shortly after.....if sprint jerks me HTC is gonna lose the sale...cause if I get word of the SGIII coming to sprint between this phone arriving I'll be getting the SGIII

I just got off the phone with sprint they told me my new Htc Evo Lte was sent yesterday via UPS overnight. The said I would get it today however for some reson they were not getting the tracking number and would call me back in 2 hours to give it to me. We will see!!!
