myTouch 3G Fender Limited Edition

If Jimi Hendrix were alive today, this would be the phone he'd be carrying. The T-Mobile myTouch 3G Fender Limited Edition is a refresh of the myTouch 3G that features a guitar-like finish, a serious case that mimics one you'd take to a gig, and it sees the (very welcome) addition of a 3.5mm headphone jack. A full review is forthcoming. In the meantime, peep our hands-on video after the break.

Really liking this edition. helps if you are a musician-loving that sunburst and maple look.
one thing i wanted to add is i don't think the music player is the usual android default. I believe HTC added their sense player to this edition.
thanks for the hands-on review as always.

+10 simply for knowing Lemmy is God. And that officially makes you an old dude.

Welcome to the club, meetings are @4 so they don't interfere with dinner and Wheel of Fortune.

If Jimi Hendrix were alive today he'd take that phone light it on fire and smash it to pieces.

I'm digging the finish on that mytouch. I personally wouldn't get it, but I think it looks nice.

I am in the market to switch off Blackberry... have been using BB for over 10 years and frankly am tired of them. Have been checking out the Android phones at T-Mobil and came across this version of the myTouch. I have narrowed down my choices to either this specific phone (the Fender Edition) or the Samsung Behold II.

A couple of things that the reviewer missed in this video are the inclusion of a much more enhanced music player with the Fender Edition and the navigation buttons are brushed metal... not plastic like the standard version. And, of course the new headphone jack.

I would agree however that T-Mobile could have and should have done a better job on the wallpapers with this edition. Some shots of Clapton or maybe his guitars would have been nice. Not knowing Android I won't assume you can add your own wallpapers like Blackberry. If so, then not a big deal. The phone up close and personal is very nice and has a nice feel to it... that said, because of the high shine finish it is a bit slippery. The only complaint I have is the lack of a flash for the camera.. which I think is inexcusable these days. Other then that I felt it was a nice phone.

I recently opened up a contract with T-Mobile and picked up a Behold II. After going through two of them both of which had different issues (first one had a bad radio, the second would not keep my MicroSD card mounted) I returned the second one and picked up this phone...

It's so much nicer to see in person and the audio player is miles ahead of what is on the Behold II. My only gripe is the lack of any EQ settings. The Guitar application is a special edition of Solo which can be found on the Android market.

The special feeling of having this phone is that it is unique in a world of black or white cell phones. It works just like a vanilla MyTouch, but the bonuses are wonderful with the 16GB memory card, guitar case inspired packaging, and the ringtones are a great bonus (no special notification sounds though for email or text)

IMO, if you're torn between a Behold II with that beautiful AMOLED screen, be warned as getting music (and album art) working properly is a real pain, with the MyTouch, it was a breeze. The one major area where the Behold II wins however, is the camera.

In my case, I'm glad I made the switch. The Fender is a truly unique phone and quite a conversation piece for sure.

Sexy. Oh-so super sexy. And huzzah for the 3.5mm jack. Wouldn't be a phone marketed to musicians without it.

I just bought the Fender and love it, but ( yes there always a but ) I'm having problems with the battery, it dies in about half a day. I haven't finished conditioning it yet, but I'd like to know if anyone else is having or had the same problem.

I have the Fender MyTouch, I too wish the battery life could be a bit better but I still manage to get a full days use out of a single overnight charge.

A few key things that get me by is not running my backlight in torch mode. I normally leave it at 30% but will go to the quick switch to 100% if I need to read something outside, then switch back.

Otherwise, mine has been trouble free.

Jimi played Fenders primarily. After being fired from Little Richard's band, he had his own group, Jimmy James and the Flames. It was at this point, I believe, that he switched to Fender Stratocasters. (After the Flames, he went to England, and the rest is history.) Once he became famous, his electric guitar of choice was the Fender Strat. He did pick up a Gibson once in awhile (haven't we all), most notably a Flying V. But PLEASE...if anyone was ever known as a StratMan, it was Jimi.

Wow, it has a new color of paint.
Is that supposed to make it somehow better?

Not saying there is anything particularly wrong with it (except that it is stupidly short on memory and lacks a real keyboard), but this is nothing more than a PAINT JOB!!!! it doesn't actually change the FUNCTION, which is what it is all about.

3.5mm headphone jack? Wow, so what? Wired headphones are really 20th-century.
