Droid 2 benchmark tests

Here you go, folks, a slew of benchmark tests with the Motorola Droid 2. We're doing this batch with a quorum of Android 2.2 devices -- the original Droid, the Droid 2, the Nexus One and the Evo 4G.

One pretty major caveat, however, is that the Linpack test doesn't appear to be working properly with the Droid and Droid 2, both of which use TI OMAP processors. The Nexus One and Evo 4G are scored just fine. You'll see what we mean, and if someone wants to explain things to us, we'll be at the bar. Video after the break.

Droid 2 benchmark tests

Its running 2.1 without the JIT compiler. How "low" is low for you? You won't see 30's with 2.1. If you're seeing 8's, then that's about the max you typically see on 2.1

Yeah I really like these benchmarks whenever a new phone comes out. Even though the tests aren't an "exact" way to test the speed of the phone it gives us (the modern consumer that doesn't have access to 4 different top of the line phones) the chance to see how they compare. Not only in the benchmarks, but the screens res, screen size, size of the phone, brightness, graphics, etc etc. Thanks, Phil keep em coming this is the only site that I have seen this everytime a new phone comes out.

I like it too Phil, but I feel like you should incorporate other benchmarks.

Nenamark
GLBenchmark
An3dBenchmark
BenchmarkPi
Quadrant
Gears (incase something like the Evo's 30fps cap happens again)
Dotty (multitouch points)

Along with Linpack and Neocore of course.
Neocore is NOT a good benchmark for 3d graphics because it's more of a test of triangles/second and not fill rate, which Adreno GPU lacks....... I mean it's made by Qualcomm for god's sake.

I get 30.8fps on Neocore with my Cyanogen Evo with fps uncapped.
I hope they figure out how to improve/overclock Adreno GPU.

+1 for Quadrant;

Neocore doesn't do much to show the difference in hardware speed... didn't my old g1 score ~25fps in this test??

My unrooted X running 2.1 got 7.7 MFLOPS on Linpack, 1260 on Quadrant, and 43.5 FPS on Neocore. I'm happy. :)

Maybe this is why the x is being held up for froyo? Maybe they are tweaking it to perform better? One can hope. Although even on eclair my quadrant tests are usually right around 1250. Will see.

I'm running a palm pre right now and had an instinct before that. Would everyone agree that the next natural progression for me would be the epic 4g. I'm having a really hard time deciding what to go with when my contracts up with sprint.

How are we supposed to know what features are important to you? I think YOU need to decide that...

I was thinking a comparison between all the top tier smartphones would be nice to see, if at all possible. Nokia, BlackBerry, iPhone, and Android and see who comes out on top.

On the contrary, both Galaxy S and variants as well as soon to come Nokia N8 will trash iPhone 4 in any Graphics related tests. They simply have considerably better GPU's than iP4. As for CPU tests. I guess Galaxy S and variants as well as Moto Droid X/Droid 2 would be on par or better depending on what the test is geared for.

It seems that the EVO 4G finished before any of them even though the Nexus One and the Droid 2 started before it on each test. I don't know if that matters in anyway....

Nexus One still blows all phones out of the water. Too many variables to mention for these tests to mean anything. The Nexus One still rules, if you owned one you would know what I mean.

I have Nexus One with Froyo but I don't think it blows others out of the water.

For Quadrant results, you can compare many different phones here:

As you can see, Samsung's Galaxy S, with right mods, will blow everyone else out of water, even before Froyo.

I'm still waiting for something better from HTC. :)

vinny, you gotta catch up man
my vibrant runs 57fps on neocore and 2250 on Quadrant... while still on 2.1. Just wait until it gets 2.2 with the JiT compiler that the Nexus uses to boost its scores.
Anyone wanna take bets on 2700-3000 quadrant scores on the Vibrant/galaxy S? with the 2.2 JiT compiler and the speed fix? :)

nexus one WAS the best.. Galaxy S phones ARE the best.
