Verizon 4G LTE

See what we did there (again)?

Verizon today announced that on Dec. 15 (that'd be tomorrow) it's adding the following cities to its 4G LTE roster:

  • Dover, Del.
  • Lafayette, Ind.
  • Fitchburg/Leominster, Mass.
  • Duluth, The Rochester Area and St. Cloud, Minn.
  • Manchester/Nashua, N.H.
  • Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
  • Findlay/Tiffin and Youngstown/Warren, Ohio
  • Indiana, Pa.

Verizon also announced 4G LTE expansions in San Diego and San Francisco; Washington, D.C.; Savannah, Ga.; Chicagoland, Ill.; and Baltimore and Hagerstown, Md.

Available from Verizon Dec. 15 ... More cities get 4G LTE

Further proof that being first seldom results in being the best.

Oh well. At least we can look forward to the Sprint LTE roll out notices in... 2013.

If not for the 24% discount I get through work on my family plan I don't think I would be a Sprint customer right now. Thankfully the unlimited data is a nice thing they still have so it is bearable if you are lucky enough to get wimax coverage that doesn't drop all the time. That's pretty much it at this point though. My guess is that disappears when you upgrade to an LTE phone. I hope I am wrong but I doubt it.

Man you're wicked Phil, but on bright the side there's our Savannah, Ga expansion from the leak!

Columbus, Indiana.. please? All other larger small "cities" in Indiana have 4G LTE now, give southeastern IN some love please.

well played Phil...

but this would be just in time if that certain phone does come out tomorrow!

Hey Verizon... When you get done not announcing the Nexus, could you please give us some 4G love here on the left coast... We do have cities other than Portland out here in Orygun...

There's no way Verizon releases an LTE phone on the same day they expand their network. Way too risky.

This is a January 2012 right before CES release.

hahaha i can only imagine the headlines here when they actually do announce the Galaxy Nexus!! lmao oh and btw Phil, your'e a bastard!

Glad they're rolling this stuff out on the 15th, because one thing is for sure we won't be getting a nexus by then.

which is okay by me, I can't upgrade till the 30th even if I decide to stick with verizon.

you should be able to upgrade early if you are moving from a 3g phone to a 4g phone. My local verizon store tried to push me into a droid razr or a htc rezound. my upgrade isnt til 12/30/11.

Come on VZW, show Tuscaloosa some love! We're only the largest city in the state without 4G. What do we need to do to get some LTE here, win another national football championship? OK, we can do that.

And, while you're at it, could you fix that stretch of I-20/59 near Vance that's still 1x? What happened there? Were the T-1 cables not quite long enough to reach those towers? Seems really odd to have only 1x in such a tiny area surrounded by 3G and 4G, especially considering how close it is to the Mercedes plant.

OK, I know I'm nit picking. We did take a good deal of tornado damage, but still, the wait is getting almost too much to take, especially after seeing expansion after expansion come and go.

Seriously, I don't believe Tuscaloosa nor Auburn were ever part of 2011's deployment, despite both being an hour away from a major LTE city (Birmingham and Montgomery respectively). Just the way the cookie crumbles. I would venture a guess though both are on tap for 2012. :)

Actually, what I've heard a few times was that both Tuscaloosa and Birmingham were supposed to be lit up last May, but the April 27 tornado did a great deal of damage in both cities, causing things to be delayed. Of course, damage in Tuscaloosa was a great deal worse (10% of the city was destroyed).

I have to give VZW credit, though, for getting us back online as fast as they did. I live right at the edge of the area of total destruction (go a block from my house, and there's nothing there), and they had voice and data back up in just over 24 hours. Actually, it was up before them, just not stable, but that may have been due to extremely heavy use.

And I also have to hand it to AT&T. My U-verse Internet stayed on on after the tornado, and I only lost it after my UPS died. The power company had to cut a cable in my backyard to remove a tree, and AT&T had that fixed within a couple of days of me reporting it when my power came back on. So, were it not for a lack of power and a deliberately cut cable, I may not have lost service at all.

Is there really a "Chicagoland",Ill? Don't they mean the Chicago metro area? BTW,since VZW is filling in the New England market how about Burlington,VT ?Please....

ha ha I live in Findlay. I knew this was coming a while back but it's weird to see my town on the mainstream websites like this.

I have had the thunderbolt since launch in Duluth . Looks like my asking price on Craigslist just went up. Gnex and LTE on the same day? Here's to hoping.

I bought a bolt on launch day too, and it seems that by the time 4G gets to me in central NJ, I'll be upgrading lol, not that I'm complaining I like my bolt and in 3G mode with AOSP I get a days usage out of it easy.
But 4G would be nice, I hear my areas expansion was delayed due to all of the weather damage from the hurricane. It's good to see some east coast cities again, gives me hope.

You know, it dawned on me... what if with these new cities they quietly announced they were going to stop grandfathering unlimited data for contract renewals. I'd be PISSED if I found out Dec 15th had significance in that regard... SO I figure it's highly likely that when I go tomorrow to buy the Nexus that's what'll happen given my luck. Call me an optimist.

Available from Android Central Dec. 14th...

More dickery!

lol, gotta love that AC sense of humor. Next stop, NEXUS

Youngstown/Warren, Ohio? That's rich. When I visit the in-laws in Y-town I'm lucky if I can get 3G on VZW, and now they're claiming LTE too? Bull...

I so glad I left sprint last month. Yeah its great to have unlimited data but what's the use when it's slow as he'll. I do pay a little more but verizon's network is worth every penny.

Argh... LTE has been only 10 miles away from my city for months. I wish the fact we are a largely campus town would have helped my chances

It's nice having 4G in Hagerstown, MD. Unfortunately, this doesn't help me with my Droid X, as they haven't added 3G yet - I'm still on 1X!
