froyo release rooted

Android hackers strike again, this time with the upcoming Android 2.2 release for the Evo 4G -- it's already been found, rooted and made available for your flashing pleasure.  Avalaunchmods has beat everyone to the punch and cranked out the first Evo 2.2 ROM with Sense, and everything working.  Enough of my talking, I have a ROM to flash -- and some of you do too.  Hit the source link for download instructions and links [xda-developers] Thanks for the tip and the ROM Avalaunchmods!

Update: HTC's pulled its link and gone on Twitter with the following: "Please be aware any update.zip floating around for EVO are not final and may cause problems. Official updates are coming OTA next week!" You've been warned!

I love root I can switch between cyanogen 6 and this htc sense 2.2 root!
Right now I'm digging the cyanogen 6 but I removed adw and added launcher 2-1(stock android)!

I don't get it.. if it's the official rom, how come it needs to be rooted to be put on an evo?

This.

I just downloaded it directly from HTCs site, and loaded it as a recovery. No rooting, no adding Sense needed.

Sounds like someone is taking credit for doing pretty much nothing.

or someone got the update early, figured out how to root it so people using custom recovery and are already rooted can use it too, and posted it up.

This is a major deal, especially since he beat HTC to the punch.

Doesn't have to be but now we don't have to wait for a rooted version. This is a good thing!

Apparently here:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=130233

and here:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=130233

...are downloads for the STOCK ROM. According to the sites both of them will break root. I'm reluctant to do it, being that the last update bricked my phone, but I want Froyo so bad...

Post here if anyone uses these downloads to get the STOCK ROM and if it's a successful download and flashing.

Download the Android 2.2 firmware for the EVO –
Rename the file update.zip and copy it to your microSD card via USB. [Note: make sure the file is named update.zip and not update.zip.zip.]
Power down your EVO
Hold down the “Volume Down” button as you power the phone back on.
A screen should appear showing your phone’s system searching for various files. Scroll down to “recovery” and press the “Power” button.
When you see the triangle with an exclamation point symbol, press the “Power” and “Volume Up” buttons at the same time.
From the menu that appears, select “Apply sdcard:update.zip.”
When the screen displays “Install from sdcard complete” select “reboot system now” and wait for the phone to power back up.

Sorry, I'm a little confused, so I'm going to sacrifice my dignity for the sake of those that follow.

Am I correct that this ROM is different from the official stock 2.2 update from HTC in that this one is pre-rooted?

If so, was this one based on the official ROM?

If you head over to xda thread, lots of issues with this. Not to denigrate the good work over there, but man it is like the wild west. Some guys just got to shout "First!" and the barflies will ignore some major inconveniences just to jump in. Wade in with extreme caution. I await a fully function rooted EVO froyo.

Worked for me, Froyo working fine. Android-wifi-tether not working, but it does say that it is for 2.1 only.

You all missed the point here. i can see its a bunch of newbies to rooting and everything. Avalaunch had got the update before HTC had a chance to release it. He rooted it FOR THOSE THAT HAVE ROOT so we can update with out losing our root.

BUT YET AGAIN! there's also a leaked HTC version out in the blue that is NOT ROOTED. and thats for normal phones..

If you don't want to lose your data then just wait to Aug 3rd or load the HTC source that is out in the blue. . If you have root then use avalaunchmods to keep your root! Correct me if im wrong. even tho i stand strongly correct here

I'm guessing you have the Android 2.1.1 update, and never rooted your evo before. I think this froyo root can only be used if your phone is already rooted, just to keep root, but update to froyo.
