ASUS Transformer Prime

Here's one of those good news/bad news things: It looks like the ASUS Transformer Prime and its new quad-core Tegra 3 internals is proving to be quite popular. Too popular. So popular, in fact, that Amazon's canceling some preorders, citing a lack of availability. Here's the e-mail that's going 'round:

Due to a lack of availability from our suppliers, we will not be able to
obtain the following item(s) from your order:

"ASUS TF201-B1-GR Eee Pad Transformer Prime 10.1-Inch 32GB Tablet
(Amethyst Gray)"

We've canceled the item(s) and apologize for the inconvenience. If you see a
charge for the canceled item, we will refund you within 1-2 business days.

Disappointing, to say the least. But we're willing to bet ASUS is doing it can to get the Prime into as many hands as it can, as quickly as it can. We'll update with any word from ASUS.

Thanks, Pete, and everyone else who sent this in!

Amazon forced to cancel some ASUS Transformer Prime preorders

I did not really expect to have to preorder this. Maybe I should have. I am planning to wait until the beginning of the year though so I can write it off next years business expenses so maybe by then it will not be an issue.

Didn't preorder either. Told my wife this is what I want for Christmas when asked. Hopefully she'll be able to get one from Best Buy and also write it off as a business expense this year.

I expected this. It took Asus months to properly get the transformer in stores or even off back order online. That's the tablet I wanted but went with the galaxy 10.1 cause it was available. Asus needs to do a better job. This is why apple sells so many ipads. Marketing and availability.

It twas VERY difficult getting the original Transformer and I can see this one is following down the same path, uuuggggggghhhhhh

I just checked my order status and it is still there, it has not been cancelled. Maybe I got lucky as well. I preordered almost immediately when they had it available.

I'm not sure how to feel about it. On the one side it is good to see that this tablet is having such demand that Amazon can't handle the volume of pre-orders. On the other hand, I feel terrible for the folks who've had their orders cancelled.

I had to re-read that second to last sentence before I understood it completely and it wasn't making my head explode.

It's missing a "what"..... phew.

:)

Good that I pre-ordered mine through my local computer store (NCIX), I'm sixth in line and apparently the Champagne Gold colour is only limited release in Canada (according to the NCIX staff), good thing I preordered.

I'm still good to go :)!

Good news/bad news for Asus. I thought they would've learned their lesson from the first tablet.

I can't even begin to express my frustration with this. This is a *pre-order*. How do you get out of stock of a pre-order? Mine was stated to ship after December 25th. I purchased for the $492 price at 10:21am. Are other orders fulfilled for the $499 price? Shipped after January 5th, 2012? Why was Amazon taken off the pre-order list? I would have gladly ordered from Newegg....

This is getting become a trend for new product introduction nowaday. It is a marketing plot - Creating a early shortage to create publicity for free. Yes, I fall for it too.

"...we're willing to bet ASUS is doing it can to get the Prime into as many hands as it can, as quickly as it can."

Sort of a generic statement, don't ya think? Bet this, Amazon absolutely got the word from Asus BEFORE they canceled thousands of these orders. Not trying to be picky but, it's the obvious that makes me ka-RAZY!
In all fairness to your readers, maybe a few didn't realize that there would be another wave of units to follow. Unfortunately, it might be awhile :( Seems Amazon would offer an option of waiting 30 days IF, more would be coming that soon.
God, I hope I don't get that same letter from Best Buy!

Same here as I had the preorder BS with amazon (but I got a $30 credit on my acct!)
Now have it on po at Best Buy!
Come on BEST BUY!
