Kindle Fire HDX

£30 discount on all 7-inch, Wifi-only HDX models until January 2

Amazon UK has announced that it's lowering the price of all 7-inch Kindle Fire HDX Wifi models by £30 until the new year. The promotion runs until Jan. 2 and sees the cheapest 16GB varaint "with special offers" — i.e. lock screen ads — coming down to £169. As always, buyers can configure their devices with up to 64GB of storage, ads or no ads, and Wifi-only or Wifi + 4G LTE.

Amazon's latest small form factor tablet features a 7-inch 1920x1200 display, a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2GB of RAM, with Android-based software built around Amazon's content ecosystem. Here's what our own Jerry Hildenbrand had to say about the HDX in his recent review —

Should you buy one? That's going to depend on what you're looking for in a tablet. If you want something that has access to all the cool apps and Android features we talk about here at AC daily, then no — the Kindle Fire HDX is not for you. On the other hand, if you want a simple, yet elegant portal to a rich content library — and don't mind that it's Amazons — then you should definitely grab one.

7-inch Kindle Fire HDX down to £169 in the UK

The decision is completely not based on the quote from AC recent. It is purely based on how quickly I can flash CM on it.

I don't think you meant shoehorning. To me that would entail that the internals are not meant for Android, ie putting Android on a Mac.

I think Amazon is becoming painfully aware that their UX is crap. People are either burned from their original Kindle Fire purchase or still satisfied with it as they are not in wont of another Amazon window when they can purchase any other tablet and still have the app for any Amazon shopping they might do. Or buy an iPad for the shopping app and the video apps.

Never can understand why ppl prefer iPads over Android tabs.Crap UI where u can't even displace icons,no side loading without jailbreak,no flexibility and the fact that the latest iOS is a blatant rip off of Android but with My Little Pony theme

I Bit the bullet on one of these on Sunday when they was offering the 25% down and the last 75% over a few months.... i used it for an hour, put it back in the box just like brand new..... and decided to gift it to a family member, the Fire OS is so restrictive, and chances of any real progress on installing GP and it being usable are also slim, if it was my 1st tablet id have loved it, but seeing as its my 4963th tablet i couldnt stand it, it got cast aside like a red headed step child lol.

Also after moving on to the G Pad 8.3 it seemed so small, i even sold my Nexus 7 2013 for the very same reason, i know i should have expected that but i got sucked in with the great internals, it was an itch that has now gone away

I would have kept it if we had a CM11 rom or something of the like, but then it wouldnt be a kindle no more....
