Where to buy the Samsung Gear S2

The Samsung Gear S2 is available today from a limited (but well-known) number of retailers. As a refresher, this is a Tizen-based smartwatch, but and it's compatible not just with Samsung's latest phones — the Galaxy S6 models, plus the Note 5 — but also with a large number of non-Samsung smartphones. (So long as they're running Android 4.4 and have at least 1.5GB of RAM. You can find a complete list of compatible phones here (opens in new tab)

And don't let the fact that this is running Tizen scare you away. As we showed in our hands-on with the watch from Germany, it's fast. And there's a lot to like about it.

So if you're looking to pick one up, there are a number of retailers from which you can choose. The Gear S2 runs $299, and the Gear S2 Classic is $349.

  • Samsung is getting as bad as Google with these releases. The Classic is not available at all from Amazon yet, and lists as "ships in 3 to 4 weeks" on the Samsung site. So when they say Available 10/2, not so much ...
  • Because Amazon is the only place to buy it! Burn Samsung to the ground and piss on it's ashes! Retard.
  • If you read his comment and understood what he said you would have kept your mouth shut. You are an idiot.
  • Actually, that is the standard S2, not the CLASSIC version. Thanks for checking though.
  • dup
  • Lol, No, I thought too it was available there originally. No worries
  • What happened to tmobile Verizon selling them
  • I'm willing to bet you can waltz into a Best Buy and find at least one in the fitness/watch case. I got a Huawei the day it came out. Was just sitting there in the case (along with some gen2 360's). Employees had no clue they had any.
  • Well no one knows what Huawei is. That's probably why. Plus Andorid Wear watches are typically put in more secrete sections of the store. But everyone knows about Samsung Gears though. And they'll be put on display in the Samsung store section for customers to see when they're looking for Galaxies. Posted via the Android Central App
  • My point wasn't the brand recognition or anticipated demand, rather the fact that stuff just randomly appears at Best Buy on release day. I was literally the first person in the country to get the Dell 7000 Android tablet. Nobody even knew it was released. Just walked into a Best Buy, asked them and out the came from the back with one. There wasn't even a single tech blog that really knew anything about it at that point.
  • I can confirm what you say is totally correct. The people at Best Buy are some of the most incompetent in the retail industry. I bought the first M360 the day that it came out. When I went to the store, the people there had no idea they had one. I told them to go check in the back and of course they had one. FACEPALM
  • Thanks, I looked online and it said they had none, but I walked in and they had 2. I'm trying it out. So far I prefer the Urbane, but it's too early to say. Posted via the Android Central App
  • "I was literally the first person in the country to get the Dell 7000 Android tablet." Really? How do you even verify this? I'm just curious because you mention it a lot.
  • The regular S2 seems to be available, the Classic lists as back-ordered in Best buy and Macy's, and has almost 1 month ship times at Samsung. Fairly awful launch here. You can't even pre-order it on Amazon .
  • Fuck. The white ones aren't available. I'm not buying the black Gears that's for sure(no racism) Posted via the Android Central App
  • Great launch with only the black one available......going to check them out at Best Buy this weekend. I do see that BB has the IP68 rating on it, I thought it was supposed to be IP67? That is great news if so, finally can get in the pool with it.
  • Waiting on my bb email to puck up. Local Austin has dark gray only.
  • You should had just walked in. There's no demand for these when I went. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I'll wait for the 3G version.
  • Why do you want to pay monthly for a watch?
  • Because it does stuff that he wants it to do, making it worth $10/month (or is it $5?)...amazing, people have different needs than you.
  • Because its an option maybe? *gasp* Posted via the Android Central App
  • Because he can? +++ Insert witty signature, watch as others not get it, profit +++
  • Hell I pay 15 bucks for my favorite prosciutto bagel sandwich once a week.. $5 bucks a month (on Verizon) and I don't have to carry a phone with me... Way way worth it! You obviously would never know how awesome it is to be out on the patio, going for a walk, or the beach, sans phone, and yet still able to get phone calls.. I've answered calls in the pool lol and at work I leave my phone at my desk, roam the office, with my earpiece connected to my watch and I answer many calls.. I love it... Options are a wonderful thing..
  • Same here and I'm somewhat quite interested in the LG one with 3G/4G as well... After the Gear S, I could never go back to smartwatch that does nothing but serve notifications.
  • All three are available at Austin area BBs for store pick up. I ordered a grey(black) sport last night and on my way to pick up now.
  • Even the Classic?
  • Ok, so at 12:38am the best buy website listed all three as "Available today", and I ordered the dark gray (black) standard/sporty one. Things have obviously changed because the website no longer states that. I have a really good Samsung rep at my best buy, and he said that bb has the dark gray only, will be getting the white/silver within a week, and the Classic the following week. As for the watch, it's quite small. Dark gray is medium gray and definitely not black. The UI is really cool. The dark gray looks quite a bit like a Swatch, and a bit nondescript/boring. I'm not necessarily opposed to that, but suspect the white might look a bit more interesting. I'm not really into white, but the silver bezel with a black band might be more interesting. The bezel is really easy to use, as it spins with minimal effort. Haven't opened mine yet, cause I may just try to wait and get the white /silver.
  • No one has the white one. Checked austin san antonio houston dallas.
  • I wish you could use the NFC with any Android phone, but it looks like that only works with Samsung Pay.
  • Oh make no mistake, it's a Trojan Horse to get you to buy a Samsung phone...
  • Yeah... I was all set to get one, but then it would most likely lock me into Samsung for years to come in order to keep using Samsung pay. I'm currently using an S6, so right now it's all good, but I like options. I'll wait for next gen smart watches. Nothing really compelling yet anyway. Posted via the Android Central App
  • In the list of compatible smartphones, Samsung doesn't even mention the OneplusOne. LOL
  • Hardware not up to spec. Compatibility is based hardware plus OS. Posted via the Android Central App
  • is this compatible with lenovo k3 note?
  • Sweet. They updated the Device Compatability to the Z3 ASIA.
  • Classic one is literally not available anywhere, physicially or online. What bullshit Posted via the Android Central App
  • I agree, complete BS.
  • It's almost as if they know the model that won't sell as well and the one that will be more in demand. They then proceed to put out the ugly one first to give it a head start in sales. Note 4 vs Note 5 Speed Comparison:
  • I called my local BestBuy and they said they did not receive any shipments for the classic. Thats why BestBuy updated there website now to show "Coming Soon" for the classic. The only thing they currently have is the standard black. Samsung really rolled out the product very poorly. I cant even find absolutely any on Amazon, not even the standard black and white. Not so happy with them at the moment.
  • It showed "coming soon" for the Huawei watch as well. I walked into a store and there one sat, so YMMV.
  • You know what, I am so glad you said something. I'm going to go out now and walk in personally to see if they have them because I find it strange that they would just receive the shipment for just the standard black. Thanks for the heads up.
  • Any update?
  • Yes, I just got back and they didn't have any. Apparently, there was a delay in shipment and that's why the stores don't have the classic yet. They only had 5 in stock and it was only the standard black. They said they wouldn't receive the classic until approximately another two weeks.
  • Wow I'm at the store now looking and I'm not as impressed as I thought I would be. Definitely the Huawei looks MUCH better that I bought yesterday. The GS2 looks smaller on my wrist. It is nicely designed but the screen looks smaller than appeared. The strap feels really cheap. Shame. I wish they had the Classic, but I think ill stick with the Huawei. I really had high expectations for the Gear S2. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Me too. Huawei and Android Wear = the best option out there. My money is on AW, not Tizen for sure.
  • I'm actually happy it is small. I saw a guy the other day wearing a LG Watch Urbane and it looked ridiculous and huge.
  • Well that's because the Urbane was huge and ugly from the day it rolled off the line.
  • Is the Huawei a lot smaller? I have the Urbane and it looks good on my wrist, even if I agree it is large. But comparing specs and pictures, it looked like the Huawei was about the same size. Course I haven't seen one in person. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I don't like small watches. I do have some as far as analog, but the Huawei right now is the best looking watch. If it wasn't for that ugly flat tire, I would had got the Moto360, but the 46mm flat tire is even more unbearable for me.The Gear S is already smaller with a smaller screen because of the black circle I'm assuming are the sensors. Its not edge to edge like the Huawei. The rotating bezel is a nice feature. And I'm a huge fan of Tizen, but in honesty this time around AW seems to be a cleaner interface. And anyone who knows me from previous comments, I'm very critical of AW. Huawei FTW. Waiting on mesh band to come that I paid $9 on Amazon. Why give Huawei $50 more? But I think the only way I would buy the GS2 is if I had the Samsung phone. But it lost its lackluster in person. Posted via the Android Central App
  • So now that you have an AW it is good again? Your previous criticism isn't valid anymore? It hasn't changed that much from release. Swipe interface, no speaker, notification based........all that is OK for you now? Cool. Note 4 vs Note 5 Speed Comparison:
  • I got my Gear S2 last night from best buy.. Love the screen and how smooth it is. But it's too small.. I hate it! The original Gear S is more of a fashion statement.. So, I'm not sure.. I'm an Elite Plus member... So I have 45 days to think about it... Lol Posted via the Android Central App
  • Do you mind me asking, was this the classic or sport? I could only find the classic at any Bestbuy near me.
  • This is what I was talking about. Best Buy will say they don't have them, but lo and behold, they are most likely in store without anyone knowing. And lol about the Elite Plus. I'm that level as well. Just returned my Note 5 (40 days after purchase). 6p en route. Done with skins.
  • Definitely Samsung did better with the Gear S compared to this. So disappointed. I was gonna take the Huawei back if this looked good. It felt much cheaper build. Especially the strap. This is based on the sport model I looked at. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I just ordered one for 270 out the door at the best buy with a promo code and reward certificate ,this will be my first smart watch if I don't like it I'll just return it . Posted via the Android Central App
  • Can you tell me how to get the code Posted via the Android Central App
  • I got it for moving they sent it to my new place of residence, do you think it will work for you? I can give it to you and you can give it a try,I'm not sure if it's a one time code. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I can try it I was going to buy it today Posted via the Android Central App

  • Just picked mine up. Love it. The rotating bezel is great. Perfect way to interact with a watch. Very fast and smooth. Easy to navigate and dismiss notifications. Screen is very clear and bright. I have a 360 and already enjoy the experience better. Less clunky and much more intuitive. And the design is awesome. Feels like I'm wearing a watch. Not bulky at all. Posted from one of my many devices
  • Just got mine! Coming from that awful Android Wear, this is like night and day. No more incessant swiping. No more cartoonish cards that are way too bright. Actual tactile buttons and the rotating bezel is genius. This is the closest I can imagine getting to an Apple Device level of polish in Android land. It isn't ridiculously large and looks like a reasonable sized watch compared to the other stuff I've seen. Love it, glad I didn't get the Moto 360 or Huawei watch.
  • Can you answer calls and speak to the watch?
  • According to the training video, you can place and receive calls using the watch but it will answer/send the calls to your phone. If I am not mistaking only the 3G one will have the option to make/receive calls from the actual watch. Maybe someone who actually owns one can give us a definite answer.
  • Only the 3G version has a speaker, oddly enough. So you cannot use the S2 the same way you could previous generations for phone calls.
  • Haven't seen it in person yet but looking forward to it, one of the smallest displays but I have small wrist. Its got wireless charger like moto, rotating bezel nice ui.
huawei watch is nice but the flimsy charging for such a expensive accessory no thanks the new moto 360 smaller one looks real nice shame about the flat tyre but android wear looks cumbersome with all the swiping even with google apps, im liking the s2 classic but maybe still too early for a smartwatch
  • Huawei watch = good design though kinda oddly proportioned to me from the side. You are also getting one very nice watch (Sapphire Crystal, good metal construction). BUT...the problem with it is the OS that it runs. I was very close to pulling the trigger on it multiple times, but I just cannot fathom how I'd live with that cheesy interface on top of a very beautiful watch. It felt like something a six year old would design mated to a classy watch. My brain couldn't handle the discrepancy. So, no more Android Wear, until Google spends some time thinking about why it is so awful. Given that they didn't even really address it at their last keynote, I am assuming that they are going to continue down the current path of "no buttons", "no tactile input", etc. Oh well, I'll give Apple and Samsung my money in the interim.
  • I know what you mean. I bought the Huawei watch but AW is just... however I looked passed it because this is the best AW out right now. I know Tizen is better but I think I like the GS interface compared to the GS2. Like I said, if I had galaxy phone I'd buy this. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Il get one when it has a camera and i can make video calls on lte bands. They should also implement a flexible battery into the band itself to have more juice.
  • Granted, I've only been using it for a bit less than a day, but overall, compared to my Urbane, I'm really not impressed. I do like that it is smaller and much better suited for exercising. But while the new Tizen UI is sleek, it's still missing too many things that just automatocally happen for you on Android Wear, it only has proper email support for the Samsung Email client (the rest work, but no ability to archive or delete emails), and it's missing Google Now notifications, which I've now realized how much I rely on. Will keep using it for a while, and post again. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Stay away from tizen, it isn't getting the support it needs. Selling the watch is a priority, supporting the watch isn't. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Absolutely Love everything about Samsung! Never had any problems with their products, from cell phones, tablets, TV's and more!!
I can't wait to get my hands on the new Gear S2
  • Same here. From the S3 (my first smartphone) to my current S5 and Tab 4, I am fully satisfied with Samsung's work. I did go play with the S2 at BB over the weekend, and while I was definitely impressed with the workmanship and ease of use, I can't justify dropping $300+ on a device that will tell me the time and that I have email/text messages. Gonna wait and see how the app development goes. By then, if there are enough quality apps to justify the cost, I may be able to pick up a refurb for a reasonable price.
  • The gear s2 is by far one the most polished smart watches out pick mine up on day one very impressed this is my forth Sammy watch . Only thing missing is the ability to make a receive calls . That omissions almost had me take the watch back but after a few days cooler heads prevailed now it's starting to grow on me . By the way I still have my gear S watch which I still think is the king of smart watches Posted via the Android Central App
  • What is the difference between the S2 and the Classic S2 other than the price? Sorry, I compared on best buy and could not spot a difference in the specs. Posted via the Android Central App
  • The specs are the same. The classic looks more like a regular watch and takes standard 20mm watch bands. In my opinion the classic looks more premium. Has anyone managed to find a classic in a store yet?
  • is this compatible with lenovo k3 note?
