Sprint announces the Green Sprint ID pack

To go along with the eco-friendly Samsung Replenish, Sprint has announced the availability of the Green Sprint ID pack.  This will give access to applications and mobile content to help you "live a greener lifestyle" through your Android smartphone.  Included in the Green ID pack are:

  • Live Green widget with access to a carbon footprint calculator
  • Green Now widget, with content from TreeHugger, Earth911, and GreenBiz
  • ShopGreen widget full of eco-friendly daily deals
  • iRecycle to help locate the right recycling center
  •'s Android application
  • Light Bulb Finder to help make the Green choice when replacing your light bulbs
  • Seasonal Harvest Lite to help find locally grown produce
  • eBay Green to find those Green gadgets and sustainable home products

Before any of us scoff at this, it's important to try to keep our planet from going any further into decline.  I'm not sure is using a smartphone to do it is going to be very effective, but it certainly can't hurt.  And to many this will hold real appeal.  If you're interested, you can grab the Green ID pack for free using any of the Sprint devices that have Sprint ID enabled.

  • Am I the only one who sees this as a cynical marketing ploy? A collection of free apps of little or no value beyond a simple Google search on a phone of questionable green-ness, hopefully sold to a bunch of green (as in nOObs) customers introduced just in time for Earth Day.
  • Absolutely, just like all the other 'green' ploys out there. It's a cash-cow right now.
•'s free. Most of the things we can do to save energy and produce less waste and pollution actually save individuals money long-term. Unfortunately, the average human (note that I didn't say American, this is a human problem) is lazy and extremely short-sighted.
  • how can we grab this?
  • I'm holding out for the Sprint Drilling Rig app.
  • This is about the dumbest thing I have ever seen !! The Government created, money generating, Union supporting GREEN agenda is such a load of crap !! Our planet is NOT in decline at all !! The human race is in decline !!! The earth has withstood far more in its history than man can throw at it , but we think that we are the high and mighty and that earth cant withstand us ?? Please !! The earth will be here long after man has been gone !!
  • "Our planet is NOT in decline at all !! The human race is in decline !!!" Well, it's a matter of definitions. You are correct in that very little we could do to the Earth could really harm it in a serious way. Even if global warming does go out of control and the surface temperature is 200 degrees, the Earth will still be fine. However, the human race and most species will not be. That said, there are serious threats to the future livability of the planet for homo sapien and various other species' on the planet. If a person is cool with the planet becoming less and less habitable due to the excesses of humans, then by all means, they shouldn't worry about it. However, for the majority of us, we do care about maintaining the habitability of the planet and will continue to pursue the two-pronged approach of conservation and development of alternate energy sources.
