Samsung Galaxy S4 Active up for pre-order on AT&T

$200 on a two-year plan or $595 up-front, shipping June 18

Right on schedule, Samsung's rugged, water-resistant Galaxy S4 Activet is now available to pre-order from U.S. carrier AT&T. The Active packs similar specs to the regular Galaxy S4 -- Snapdragon 600 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 1080p screen -- with the added bonus of being able to withstand the elements. It's rated IP67 for dust resistance and water resistance up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.

The Galaxy S4 Active will set you back $199.99 on a two-year plan, or $594.99 outright. It's available in "urban grey" and "dive blue" colors, and will start shipping to pre-order customers from June 18, ahead of the June 21 date for general availability.

Anyone placing a pre-order today? Shout out in the comments!

  • I'm going to wait until the Galaxy S5 active coming out in 5 months...
  • was thinking that same thing
  • It was a year between the release of the S3 and S4...
  • It was more like 9 months...
  • I'm going to wait until they make an otterbox defender case for this......
  • you need the biggest brick, watertight phone in the world lol. Otterbox cases are ludicrous, they add way too much bulk unless you use your phone doubles as a hockey puck.
  • Maybe the S4 active will come in a red color like the leaks showed. I thought that red color looked pretty awesome. Posted via Android Central App
  • It was orange Posted via Droid RAZR M on the Android Central App
  • Just realized my Incipio hard shell case is this exact same color, on my GS3... From the DARK AC App!
  • does this not have expandable storage? (what options for internal?) since the s4's slot is under the battery cover and this doesn't seem to have a removable cover, I'd guess not but I haven't seen memory options mentioned anywhere.
  • 16gb of internal and it does have a micro sd slot.
  • fyi, the screen is not amoled, or super amoled or super amoled plus or flexible. tft lcd. this might be a deal breaker for some. i wonder why they didn't use amoled. any ideas?
  • -Easier legibility in direct sunlight
    -longer battery life
  • It may be a deal maker for me, the screen brightness on the regular S4 is terrible. So going TFT may give something brighter. I think there is a static/touch issue with having water on an Amoled that can wreck the 'brain' of the screen operation so that's why they've gone TFT. Of course, Samsung will have to do deliver a 32 or 64gb variant of this for me to be interested. 16gb is out of the question.
  • This would have been a stronger competitor to the HTC One if they had released it at launch. I think that waterproof features might have swayed me. I'm happy with my One but Samsung whiffed on me and many other people.
  • Big reduction in camera ....I think getting a good case solves my durability issues well enough without worrying about what features are missing. Posted via Android Central App
  • The camera differences between the s3 and s4 are not too drastic. Plus Samsung will put most if not all of the camera features from the regular s4 onto this one Posted via Android Central App
  • Can you point out a good hands on photo review w/ some low light pictures between the camera in the Active and the SG4 ? I don't know if this is the exact same sensor that's been in the SG3 or Note II, but the few comparison shots between last years 8MP and this years 13MP make the new camera look a lot better.
I had been waiting for the active to come out to purchase a new phone, but the camera ranks higher on my priority list than water and dust proofing. I can always add a case to the regular SG4, but I can't add a better camera to the Active :(
I'm torn now, maybe I should wait a few more weeks as there's still the Samsung event June 20th and the Nokia event July 9th....
  • Someone mentioned that SG Active is not shock/drop proof, just water proof. So, in order for me to completely protect my SG Active, I have to buy a case? It would have been better is Active was also more durable looking.
  • Can it run on TMo's network? If so, I'd be interested.
