Keeping up its legacy of offering speedy software updates, the OnePlus 5 and 5T recently started getting Android 8.1 Oreo through OnePlus's Open Beta program for OxygenOS. This marks Open Beta 6 (opens in new tab) for the OnePlus 5 and Open Beta 4 (opens in new tab) for the 5T.
With these updates, both phones are getting the following:
- Android 8.1 Oreo
- February 2018 security patch
- New auto pick up gesture (answer an incoming call by raising the phone)
- Added more clock styles for ambient display
- Added new optimizations in gaming mode for immersive gaming experience including power saving and pausing adaptive brightness
- For OnePlus Switch, added support to migrate application data, allowing you to switch between devices seamlessly
- General bug fixes and improvements
In addition to the above goodies, the OnePlus 5T is also getting optimizations for its full-screen gesture system that was first introduced in late January.
If you're already enrolled in the Open Beta on your OnePlus 5 or 5T, you should receive an OTA soon (if you haven't already gotten it) to download the latest software.
I thought this was at least part of the reason they've been so lax with security updates recently. I was annoyed, but if they're bringing the ability to migrate app data it may actually be worth the wait.
Question: does the 5T exhibit the jelly-scrolling of the 5?
No I have both
Nope. The 5t has the screen mounted properly (I've owned both phones. Returned the 5 because of jelly scrolling, rocking a 5t now and I love it)
The phone is great but the company makes it look like you need to buy a bunch of unnecessary accessories when it actually comes with a case and a protective film. Do not get conned into buying this extra stuff as they will charge you for returning them
Unfortunately the 5T is out of stock in the U.S. so we can't buy it at all anyway.
I hope it comes back in stock. I'm just waiting for payment from a side hustle then I was going to pull the trigger. Seeing what the OP 6 is potentially offering (glass back, notch) I hope to get the 5T.
The stock case is reported to scratch the paint on the back of the phone so should probably not be used...
Seconded. The included case is trash. I immediately replaced it with a much better case from Spigen.
This update is for the oneplus 3 too
And what's Samsung doing? *Flaunting* it's dirty ass with delayed 8.0! to older models (brings u the sexy S9/+ )
Good job done OP!
