January security updates rolling out to owners of the unlocked HTC One A9 in the U.S.

We have some good news for owners of the unlocked HTC One A9. According to a latest tweet from VP, Product Management at HTC Mo Versi, the handset will shortly receive the January update in the U.S. This release has been fired OTA (Over-The-Air) today and should hit unlocked handsets soon enough.

Since we're talking about unlocked versions of the HTC One M9, that unfortunately leaves those rocking carrier-branded variants (or who are located in Europe) to hold out until respective updates are pushed through channels.

  • If HTC releases the One M10 unlocked and have it compatible with all major carriers and provide these type of updates then it could very well be my next phone.
  • That's precisely my thought. Especially if they keep the size in the same range as the current M9. I love my Moto X PE, but HTC is killing it with the One A9 updates, and the size of the MXPE, even after a full 4 months, is still not what I want.
The first device maker with a small-ish (5-5.2") device with a tasteful UI, quick updates, and stellar build quality will get my next round of cash.
  • C'mon LG... Where's that G3 update you promised? Seems like everyone's getting an update except us G3 owners lol LG G3.. waiting for Marshmallow...
  • I'm so fed up with people like myself who are loyal to theirs carriers, as well as their HTC phones, to be left out in the cold when it comes to updates and security patches!...I feel like a second class citizen in the world of smartphones....sometimes I just feel like going back to an old fashioned flip phone and to hell with the smartphone manufacturers!!!! • What benefit do you gain from carrier loyalty? Posted via the Android Central App
  • You're blaming the manufacturers, when you should be blaming the carriers. Posted via the Android Central App
  • No reason you can't buy an unlocked phone and use it with your carrier. Granted, there may be budget constraints, but if you really must have the updates right away, unlocked is the way to go. Posted via the Android Central App
  • It's the carriers fault. Simply just get an unlocked HTC model of you desire one and use it on your carrier and problem done! Posted via the Android Central App on my Frost Nexus 6P
  • I think we should start giving heat to the manufacturers too. They don't need to compromise like this, just look at Apple and even windows phone. Hell if windows phone can do it, Android OEMs can sure as hell do it to. Update independently of carriers that is. You think carriers are just going to say "no we're not carrying Android devices anymore"? That's half the market. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I should have kept my HTC A9. Note 4 {Sprint 5.1.1}, with nothing enticing to upgrade too.
