Google publishes Android 5.0.2 factory image for Nexus 7 (2012)

Google has just posted the factory image of Android 5.0.2 Lollipop for the WiFi version of the 2012 Nexus 7. This follows the rollout of the Android 5.0.1 on many Nexus devices recently. With the factory image up, an OTA update can't be too far away, and we'll keep you posted on AndroidCentral if we see Android 5.0.2 on other Nexus smartphones and tablets.

The build for Android 5.0.2 is LRX22G. In addition to publishing the Android 5.0.2 factory image for the device, Google has also opted to pull the Android 5.0.1 image for the Nexus 7.

• Download Nexus 7 (2012) WiFi factory image (LRX22G)
• 5.0.3 next week? Posted via HTC One on Sprint
• i still have yet to receive 5.0 on these yet. and yet the moto360 got 5.0.1. 1. galaxy s5
2. nexus 7 wifi 2013
3. glaxy note 10.1 2014 edition
• Gingerbread wasn't right until 2.3.7. Lollipop could be on the same track.
• The current standard build for Gingerbread is 2.3.3 in which case, this would be the last release cycle coming up after this one if you were following that pattern.
• This is interesting. I wonder what the changes are..
• The changes are bug fixes wonder no more. With that said my nexus 7 2013 is flying smooth without turbulence... This has to be specific for the 2012 anyone with a 2013 finding issues? Next-us
• No issues, smooth as Glass Posted via Android Central App on Nexus 7 (2013)
• 2013 Wi-Fi working great with 5.0.1
• Same here. Other than app crashes are happening a little more often. But they might just not be optimized yet. Like the AC and CB Apps. Posted via the Android Central App from my Nexus 7
• i have 2013 nexus 7, 5.0.1 and it may be unrelated to version and more the email app, (Gmail) but i'm having
email issues.
I didn't get the video playback issues in 5.0 cause i skipped from 4.4.4 to 5.0.1
other wise its running good
• My nexus 7 2012 does not even turn on anymore after the lollipop update no matter what i do it shows no sign of life even if i plug the charger in it does not show the white battery icon i also cant get into the boot loader i have tried charging it with a power bank. I left it on charge for about an hour and the power bank was still full so now i also know that it is not accepting any charge no matter what. Othe than that my nexus 7 2013 is working well it is very smooth battery life is also good.
• my 2012 nexus 7 is super slow and laggy, too. sometimes it works awesome, but an app always causes it to lag until i force close it, then it's good.
• Atleast yours still works mines going in the bin
• had a similar issue. turns out the battery cable had come loose from the device. had to open case (very easy, look for videos/photos) and reattach.
• That was the first thing i tried i took the battery out then i repositioned it closer to the side where the connector it and plugged it back in made no difference
• Hold down the volume up and down keys for three minutes. Then plug it up for ten. Then turn it on.
• My recent apps button doesn't work most of the time (2013).
• So much so that I went back to 4.4.4. Terrible WiFi, sluggish performance at times, and that's after I went and removed the end party apps that hadn't been updated. I could live with some chop, but the WiFi was a deal breaker. I'll just wait a while. Maybe they'll come to realize that dome of the features from kit kat that they removed weren't bad features. Posted via the Android Central App
• One particular change is to do with storage access and access for slower NAND memory. This is probably what is speeding it up. Applied it to my Nexus 7 2012 and it's so much smoother than 5.0 Posted via Android Central App
• No love for mobile editions of Lollipop the Nexus 7 (2012 or 2013) ?!?!
• I believe the phone carrier would update it instead of Google
• No they don't but they still need test it first. Google release all updates to Nexus devices. It took them months after 4.4.4 was released before the Mobile version of the Nexus 7 got the update Posted via Android Central App
• I used to have a Wifi version of the 2012 tablet, something went wrong with it and Google replaced it with a 3G version. I don't have any sim in my tablet and just use it Wi-Fi only so a bit disappointed no Factory Image has been released for it!
• Can you not just use the WiFi image if no need for sim/3G? I too have the 2012 3G, and just use wifi now.
• Tried! Doesn't accept the image!
• Hopefully the bug fixes are noticeable... OK, really I just hope they didn't do like Congress and fix it till it's more broken
• Maybe it will improve the performance. I had to upgrade the wife to the 2013 model (of Nexus, not the wife). It is usable without Facebook installed, but Chrome is terribly sluggish and a few other things.
• You mean wefi?
• I cannot find a single bug on my wifi 2013 7 with 5.0.1 Posted via Android Central App
• Right there with you I sideloaded ota zip what was your method? Next-us
• While that is wonderful, this update is targeting the N7.1 (Nexus 7 2012) and not the N7.2 (Nexus 7 2013)
• Do you not have the multitasking bug? Where if you swipe away all open apps, close the multitasker, and open it again, and there's still some app like phone still open? Posted via the Android Central App
• I wonder if 5.0.1 was pulled so fast because it was bricking tablets?
• I dirty side loaded system etc img files to my roommate’s 2012 model and it ran 5.0.1 just fine, no bricks. Even rooted it with C.F.A.R Maybe there was just the odd bug a few people were having that this fixes. A confirmed issue that wasn't widespread?
• Thanks beta testers! You guys are doing a heck of a job making touchwiz and sense great! Posted by my soon to be retired Note 3
• And here... we... go! Posted from my Motorola Moto G
• Honestly, though, his comment isn't off the mark: the whole Lollipop rollout has been nothing short of a shit show. Lots of people (beta testers, essentially) are experiencing a myriad of problems. Once these issues are ironed out, the update will make it to carrier-branded handsets (I.e. Samsung, HTC, and Co.). Until then, everyone that receives an update is a beta tester (not necessarily a bad thing).
• I wouldn't really say that Moto G 2nd Gen users are beta testers. I fully agree with nonexus but he intentionally tries to push the purists' buttons lol. Posted from my Motorola Moto G
• The purists need their buttons pushed every now and then. posted from an undisclosed device
• Perhaps they do. Posted from my Motorola Moto G
• This ^^^ Posted via Bacon on CM11S
• Yeah know why? The purists act like it is stock or nothing. Stock, in essence, kinda sucks. But it is pure android the way Google intended so it is infallible. On screen buttons always is the best way to go. SD cards suck that is why Google got rid of them. Menus, Knox,....... The list goes on. Posted by my soon to be retired Note 3
• K k was not much better. I love android. I used Google and words long before they were a billion dollar company. The constant screw-ups on Nexus sales. The constant beta testing of new Android releases. The broken promises of enforcement of upgrades. They have me weary, and leary Posted by my soon to be retired Note 3
• I actually thought Kitkat was solid. But, I will agree with you: this shit show with the Nexus 6 stock and the Lollipop rollout has turned me off from getting the Nexus 6. But, as I'm not eligible for the Next program at the moment, I have to wait before I can upgrade to anything. I don't feel like paying full price for anything at the moment (was only willing to buy the Nexus 6, due to its lower price than the rest of the flagships).
• I liked kk out of the box, and the issues were not huge like this one, but we did go through the .1 fixes pretty quick. You are right, lollipop is a shitahow Posted by my soon to be retired Note 3
• What shit show? I traded in my Note 4 for the Nexus 6 and I find the Nexus to be a better device. Granted Samsung has more features, but stuff I really didn't use. Nexus doesn't lag like the Note and voice recognition actually works. Posted via the Android Central App
• YoU completely missed the point of my comment. I'm not comparing performance between handsets. My beefs are with the availability of the Nexus 6 and the rollout of Lollipop. That's it.
• Lol... Know how I know you never had a note 4 in your hands. Yeah the lag comment. You are full of it. Posted by my soon to be retired Note 3
• what lag? my note 4 flies like a bird and voice recognition is bang on.....the nexus 6 isnt even in the same game
• that was always the Nexus trade off.
Cheap but good performing hardware and quick updates. You may see bugs, but the trade offs were always acceptable for someone who cares about the latest updates.
I always told people, if you buy a nexus, you get really good hardware cheap, fast updates and you are a beta tester. (well cheap til now)
Now that Nexus is a public facing name, ie walk into a carrier store and its by the Galaxy s5 for about the same price, they can't be playing the bug fix game any more.
• Exactly! I've got no problem beta testing their software while they subsidise my phone! But the N6? Hard pass. Besides the nexus six series can get a little homicidal when they near their end of life... Wubba lubba dub dub!

The Cavs depend on whatever day Lebron is having, The Browns are not competitive thanks to Johnny Dumbass and the Indians I'll always follow and have love for. The world series of 96 against the braves and 97 against the Marlin's happened when I was 12 and 13 years old respectively, so I grew up with some good memories (and great teams) as far as the Indians go. They're Woking to fast for Motorola or Motorola is taking their time trying to get the software working for the 1st gen and now their behind again! And by the way the update is 371mb!! So probably some significant improvements!! Posted via the Android Central App
• 371 mb for going from. 01 to. 02? That's crazy! Next-us
• I still haven't received a lollipop update at all. I was wondering if they stopped the OTAs for the 2012 n7 because of all the negative reviews I was hearing, maybe now with this I'll finally get an update.
• So... Where to start? I hd a perfectly work g Nexus 7 2012 that got that 5.0 update and it made it totally irresponsive. I could do nothing, so I tried a factory reset and voila... Brick! So no loaded OS and a bootloader that will not unlock if my life depended on it, rendering my $250 device worthless! No way to get patch installed! I don't seem to have any options, but throw it away...
• Gonna have to flash the hard way, from a computer probably. Posted via the Android Central App
• I cannot do that with a bootloader that will not unlock...oem unlock command does nothing at all and will not accept new OTA file. Am I missing some way to load with a locked bootloader and wiped system... At wits end...
• I don't own a Nexus, but every phone I've had, had a way to flash back to stock via a computer. Fastboot, plus the stock image file may do it. I'm sure XDA has a way. Posted via the Android Central App
• I tried adb commands from computer and N7 failed to run update or even unlock the bootloader failed, so is there a way to push the system without the bootloader using apk or some other method? I have never programmed in this type of environment at all... Just going with the community guidance.
• Did adb recognize your tablet?
adb devices Posted via Android Central App
• Yes and was able to communicate and send commands, but the commands errored on the bootloader unlock and the system file push.
• It's fastboot you need, not ADB, they are different.
• Fastest will only work on an unlocked bootloader and it will not unlock. I've tried using the same command 'oem unlock' and an unknown error occurs.
• If you can get into the recovery, you can reset from there. Posted via the Android Central App
• I have tried this too on multiple occasions. I get a list of errors:
E:failed to mount /cache (invalid argument)
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
(then errors repeat for 'last_log', then 'last_install' folders) Then it tries the wipe:
-- Wiping data...
Formatting /data... This will attempt until the battery dies...
So even that does not work...
• Good, cause right now my 2012 N7 sucks, wifi has gotten worse, apps don't either open right after touch input on close correctly once you hit home, i'm sure i have other issue's as well, just hoping things get resolved, or i'm going to be purchasing another tablet soon.
• I've been lazy and haven't flashed Lollipop onto my 2012 Nexus 7. It has yet to receive an OTA. I wonder if all these incremental updates are key to why the rollout has been so slow for folks like me?

• The problem is the carriers there. GSM should be fine, but getting the software from CDMA is difficult at best Posted by my soon to be retired Note 3
• In otherwords - Verizon is screwing everyone around again? Here's the problem with that view - the iPad updates roll out to everyone all at one time. The LTE iPads don't get updates *months* after the WiFi only ones do. If Apple can do it - what's up with Google? Maybe they need to find Nexus hardware partners who know how their own hardware actually works.
• The basic rule with updates anywhere is - wait a while, there could be problems.
Several informed users also suggest doing a factory reset BEFORE doing any update. Caution seems sensible.
• Why would you do a factory reset before the update? I always do it after installing a major update. Does it have to do with the crappy NAND memory specific to the 2012 and the need to clean out the garbage? I hope that 5.0.2 has aggressive fstrim to clean up the NAND. I am still running KitKat but I have high hopes for 5.0.2. I love Lollipop on my N5.

• If I just flash the system image is that enough to update from 5.0.1?
• Or 5.0... I forget offhand what the 2012 has.
• Well, glad to see them try to fix the big issues with the 2012 N7 update. Never did even get the 5.0 OTA....honestly I kinda thought they might drop it all together and site hardware incompatibility or something for this device. I guess really that couldn't happen though since many were already on a messed up 5.0 release. So let's see how long it takes to get the OTA this time....I guess I can expect the notification about this time next year, since Google will probably release it to just one or two devices per day to watch for pitchforks and torches for every update. I am a little confused though...was there ever a 5.0.1 for the 2012 or did they just jump to 0.2?
• I haven't even received 5.0 yet as an OTA. I hope this update comes my way...
• Android 5.0 was killing my Nexus 7 2012 which is why I went back to a custom KitKat Rom. Any noticeable improvements? In my experience apps would hang and ocassionaly crash, I would never have more than 400mb of usable memory, among other issues.
• Try 5.01. 5.0 was horribly buggy, but 5.01 is great. I've had a lot of problems with every device that had Kit Kat, but 5.01 solved all the problems.

• Wow.. The Nexus 7 *2012* WiFi gets 5.02 before the Nexus 7 *2013* LTE gets 5.0. Oh Google - maybe you should finish your own products before making apps for iOS?
• I need a update for my Nexus 6 to work on Sprint. The phone misses incoming calls and sends duplicate texts. Let's go Google!!!
• 5.0.2 running beautifully on my n7 2012 ..which is nice since 5.0 was unusable and kitkat wasn't doing very well either.
• actually my nexus 7 2012 with lollipop 5.0.2 this worst best buy me another and I forget the nexus Posted via the Android Central App
• Maybe this explains why I haven't received the Lollipop update yet, as my Nexus 7 WiFi 2012 version is still on 4.4.4 and still waiting. Maybe these bugs appearing made Google do a Discount Double Check and squash as many as they could. Posted from my Verizon Galaxy S III via Android Central App... And Don't Eat Yellow Snow!
• Yes, same here. No OTA since 4.4.4 for my 2012 N7. We should be thankful we weren't included in the test group. 5.0.2 is specific for making Lollipop work on our devices and I think we can now expect a full OTA release soon. I don't blame Google, I blame Asus for the crap NAND they put into the 2012 model.
• According to XDA Developers, the 5.0.2 update addresses “issues with MountService which should now start before performBootDexOpt [and] changes related to NAND have also been pushed. Fstrim, introduced in Android 4.3, caused some serious issues on Lollipop… devices with slow NAND should now have a noticeable performance boost.”
• Anyone able to capture the OTA? I want to flash only the OTA and am tired of waiting. Posted via the Android Central App
• Forget it. Just got the OTA. Haha. What timing. Posted via the Android Central App
• The OTA file for this update has been found by XDA user lynchie14 and is already on a thread full of every OTA update available (Thanks to RusherDude, great thread). Currently untested by me, but I doubt it will be a problematic update. Link for file download is <a href=" and the link for all of the OTA updates for Nexus 7 2012 is Here Just remember that you must be on the most recent android 5.0 update and follow an online guide (I believe android authority has created one for OTA update sideloading) to apply this without having to wipe your entire system or wait :D anyway hope this helps and is noticed and lots of thanks to XDA memebers lynchie14 and RusherDude. WARNING it has been said that he most recent ADB sideload software is needed to work.
• My Nexus 7 from late 2013 keeps annoyingly reporting that my system is up to date but the Android version is 4.4.4 build number KTU84P. I can`t understand why Google did not release an update to the owners in a equitable way. Should I keep waiting indefinitely for the update from Google ? thanks...
• Installed 5.0.2 several days ago and my tablet continually rebooted... like an "infinite do loop". I tried to do a factory reset from the base menu and the entire tablet appeared to turn into a brick. This morning I decided to turn it on and amazing it had come out of it's coma. It booted up in Android 5.0.2 which I confined as Build # LRX22G. It's now restoring my apps from the Google Play Store! Miracles never cease...
• all i really care about is that some genius gives the user an option to rid ourselves of all the white background. who in 2015 thinks getting a tan while reading is cool. the dark background is much easier on the eyes and frankly just a better look. that hoping when and if my n7 2012 ever gets the OTA that their will be a fix for the hideous white. Id fire whoever at google that decided this was a great idea
• January 13, and still no lollipop OTA for my 2012 n7. Is it ever coming?
• When can we expect the OTA for NEXUS 7 mobile data 2012 version?
Eagerly awaiting
• WARNING!!!
What a stinking mess this 5.0.2 is. My Nexus 7 was fine prior to this automatic upgrade and now the tablet is useless, almost bricked. Not even the dumb swipe screen works! Don't do this upgrade if you don't have to. Everything freezes. Apps crash. At those times the tablet is functioning it's doing so erratically. Thanks Google, how about buying me an iPad, please because you broke my fully-functioning tablet!
• I have the same problem....
Any clue on where to go for customer support?
• Recently my Nexus 7 (Model ME370T) downloaded and installed this Android Version 5.0.2 Build # LRX22G. Ever since the tablet is sluggish, often taking long enough to respond to input that it enters sleep mode.
Clicking PLAY on a YouTube video, when it's the only thing running shouldn't freeze up the system, but it does....repeatedly. The tablet will also register commands I didn't make, due to the delay in processing initial commands. This has been a nightmare. If their intent was to force me to buy a new tablet, they've succeeded. They've turned my tablet into a nearly useless paperweight. Is there going to be a fix for this cluster of problems?
Is there a way to restore the tablet to it's previous OS?
Is there any way to contact the people who developed this mess to get these questions answered?
