Google Assistant in your ears
Sony's latest pair of over-the-ear headphones is already one of our favorites on the market, thanks to its great sound quality and unrivaled active noise-canceling, but it's made even better with its tight integration with Google Assistant. Whether your phone is sitting on the charger in the other room or you're rushing to your gate at the airport and can't look down at a screen, having Assistant built directly into your headphones can be a huge convenience you didn't know you needed.
Setting it up with your WH1000XM3 is as easy as enabling it within the Sony | Headphones Connect app on your phone. Once it's configured, you can access Google Assistant on your headphones by holding down the NC/Ambient button on the left cup. Double pressing the button will cancel a voice command request, and if you receive a notification on your phone, pressing the NC/Ambient button uses Google Assistant to read the notification aloud to you.
You can ask Google Assistant questions, control connected devices within your smart home, and most applicably, play songs and podcasts (it'll use whatever music service is set as the default option within your Google settings). You can also use it to pause or skip through tracks, though you can do the same thing more quickly using swiping gestures on the right cup.
Keep in mind that assigning Google Assistant to the NC/Ambient button means that you'll no longer be able to launch the noise-canceling optimizer (typically accessed by holding down the NC/Ambient button) without using the Sony | Headphones Connect app.
