Weekly Photo Contest: Focus and Blur

With more ways than ever to get the sharpest or smoothest shot possible, we're ready to see what you can do with your phone camera this week.

With today's release of the Google Camera app, more than a few people are thinking about the great things that are possible with camera hardware and software in today's leading smartphones. You have more options than ever to take amazingly crisp and clear pictures, or selectively apply an artistic blur to them if you see fit. For that reason we're making this week's photo contest prompt "Focus and Blur" โ€” and whether it's an amazingly sharp and in-focus shot or a smoothed-out picture with a shallow depth-of-field, we can't wait to see entries this week.

True to the spirit of what this contest is looking to do, we're going to give away a prize that is capable of taking some beautifully sharp and selectively defocused pictures โ€” an HTC One M8 Google Play edition! We have just one to give away, so make that picture count!

Entering is easy. Just drop your entry in a forums post at the link below. Tell us what Android you used to get the picture, and any back story you want to add to it. We'll pick a winner Tuesday (April 22) night at 11:59 PM ET, and announce them on the blog with next Wednesday's contest.

Enter this week's photo contest

  • Pictures must be taken with an Android device
  • Pictures must be uploaded to the contest thread. I'm not running all over the Internet to track them down.
  • You have to tell us what device you used to take the picture, and any special software you might have used. Editing your pictures is fine โ€” this is art.
  • You must have used a valid email address to register here at AC, so I know how to contact the winner.
  • Only one entry per week per person.

Good luck, everyone!

If you want to upload it from your phone you'll need the AC Forums app. Can't do it from the AC app.

It's been ages since I've uploaded anything to AC but I can't believe you still need both apps to do it. Weak sauce.

Hey Andrew, I'd really like to take part in this contest on a weekly basis, but almost never make the time to because of the hassle involved with submitting via a computer... I get my AC fix on my phone, could you all consider setting the app up to accept entries? Thanks!

Or just do what I do. Use the Android Central app, navigate to forums>Android Photography>Contests. Then copy your image link and put the [IMG][/IMG] tags around it.

Got Nexus?

Shucks, I'm getting an error when trying to attach a photo that says I don't have permission... How do get permission?

Yeah, can't upload photos or see photos in the comments... Not sure how to do this. BTW, I'm using Chrome on a desktop, so......????

Seems a little unfair to me that a dozen people are entering pictures that they took using their M8 and Ufocus... :/ maybe its just me. Didn't intend to sound like a whiner :p

I just dont' get how the contests work......the thread gets closed and I never see who won??? Am I am missing something?

Yes, theres a post on the front page every time they announce the winners of the photo contests along with their photos :p

Thank you.....I am not normally technology challenged, but I just don't see it anywhere.....can you give me a link to where it shows this......sorry, I just don't see it. thanks.

How do I make the picture bigger, posted on my computer but the picture is really small for some reason.
