Info suggesting no 2011 Xperias would get Jelly Bean was given "in error."

In a statement on its official product blog, Sony has reassured Xperia smartphone owners that it's still in the process of investigating which of its devices will receive updates to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The statement follows earlier reports, originating from one the company's own Facebook pages that 2011 Xperia handsets like the Xperia Arc and Xperia Mini Pro would not be getting updated.

The manufacturer said --

"During a Q&A session last week on our Sony Mobile GB Facebook page, a local spokesperson gave information out in error on our Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software development and rollout for 2011 Xperia smartphones.

"We are actively investigating Android OS upgrades for all devices, but in the meantime, our Ice Cream Sandwich rollout for Xperia S and 2011 Xperia smartphones continues as planned."

So that's that. For what it's worth, only one Android manufacturer, HTC, has so far made a public statement on which of its phones will be getting Android 4.1. So Xperia owners will have to wait it out while the company works out its Jelly Bean plans. In any case, with so many 2012 Xperias still on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, we think the company's immediate priority will be getting those devices onto ICS.

Sony still 'actively investigating' Jelly Bean for all devices

Problem is, and something Sony (and all other manufacturers) NEED to understand.

All the time there is no formal statement, people aren't buying their current phones. Nobody wants to be stuck with a current phone with no clear upgrade commitment.

If people truly weren't buying their current phones, I think they'd release a formal statement. It's probably just a small minority that's so gung-ho about updates. For us active folks, though, it's annoying to sit by the waste-side and wait it out.

hmm, wasn't it mentioned already that differences between JB and ICS are not as great as differences between GB and ICS? In other words, if you have working ICS (and for 2011 phones, Sony has that) going to JB shouldn't be a major pain?

Jelly bean? How about releasing phones other than gingerbread? Or how about updating current phones to ics before talking about jelly bean.

after updated my arc s to ics always hang 3 to 4 times a day, i restore to factory settings before updating it, please help...
