Moto X

Motorola's already confirmed that the Moto X will be upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat. No surprise there. And today, at the Moto G event in Brazil, we get at least a vague idea of when we might expect it.

Motorola Mobility CEO Dennis Woodside at today's event said the Moto X can expect to be updated "in a matter of weeks." Nothing more specific than that, unfortunately. But for now, we'll take it.

I expect Google to put some form for their launcher on the Playstore sooner or later.

I am waiting for my dang contract to finish so I can get it. It ends on the 12th of December. AN ENTIRE MONTH AWAY.

In the same boat: just ordered my Moto X off eBay yesterday. Impatiently awaiting it's arrival in a few days. It was this or the N5; chose this 'n plus it's getting 4.4. I'd say win-win.

I'm going to be extra cranky if the Moto X gets KitKat before the Nexus 4

L0N35T4R says:

Cranky is an understatement. No way this would happen.

sunburned says:

So I guess to Verizon in a matter of months?

ShoelerDroid says:

Years. Potentially a decade or more.

I'd say a month after at the most wish isn't bad at all. They got the camera update about a month after the update initially went out.

I want the woodside on the phone, dammit.

This is what you get when you don't skin the life out of a phone. *Cough* Galaxy Phones. I'm ready for that soak test.

I'm expecting that within 10 days the first forum threads will pop up bitching about how the X doesn't have 4.4 yet even though moto promised it and how this is a fail for moto

Promised and delivered are two very different things.

Sent from my bada$$ Nexus 5

Exactly! For those of us that owned an Atrix, we know all about Motorola's promises...

Roid 4G says:

Now, I'm a little disappointed that I got the at&t carrier unlocked version to use on t mobile as at&t's updates are not as fast. Here's to hoping that the 4.4 update comes out for at&t as fast as t mobile.

I'm not sure if this is correct or not..But based on this article, The AT&T and T-Mobile Variants on the Moto X gets updates straight from Motorola/Google, meaning they don't have to go through the carriers. However, the Verizon variant does.

rabidhunter says:

And then the DROID's attack... Ha, at least the camera update came in a more timely mannor. They are working at faster updates, that makes me happy.

tcmeiss says:

This. As long as Moto and Google can keep Big Red from getting in the way of timely updates I'll be happy. Love seeing stuff like this because I know my Maxx can't be far behind... :)

Furt says:

I was thinking the same thing. It's been a strange experience getting an updates so quickly on Verizon. and right after that, this news comes out. Its been a nice trend.

lensgrabber says:

Hey Phil. Two questions if you get a chance to ask someone that knows. 1) Dev edition devices, will they be updated sooner or with the rest of the carrier branded ones? 2) Tap to pay in Gwallet. Is the X going to take advantage of HCE and tap to pay in wallet now? Cheers.

ne0ne says:

The dev editions will always see the update before the carrier variants

Why keep showing the wood version when it isn't available yet?

Saneless says:

Unfortunately it's a matter of 50 days before my upgrade hits, but this is good news. And at this rate the X will have 4.4 before the EVO LTE has 4.2 or 4.3. Man HTC sucks and I'm glad to be done with them for good.

Deke218 says:

All device running 4.3 will have 4.4 "in a matter of weeks." Just depends on what "a matter of weeks" means to you.

Sicily1918 says:

I'd say 7 weeks max -- otherwise it'd be a matter of months... dammit! ;)

Allen Brown2 says:

But there are 52 weeks in a year. He mentioned weeks but didn't quantify the number of weeks. That's vague management speak as usual.

I'm kinda expecting my Verizon Moto X to get KitKat before the end of the year now. :)

BUT will it be blocked to a further date beyond it's release, by the carriers so they can "Certify" it for their precious networks? /AT&Tproblems
