Ultimate Ears' Boom 2 and Megaboom pick up Google Now integration

Ultimate Ears is rolling out a firmware update to the UE Boom 2 (opens in new tab) and Megaboom (opens in new tab) that brings Google Now and Siri integration to the Bluetooth speakers. With the update, you can press the Bluetooth button and ask Google Now to play music, check the weather, search for nearby restaurants, and much more.

As the speakers are water-resistant, integrating Google Now lets you select and play tunes without having to access your phone. You can install the firmware update through the companion apps for UE Boom (opens in new tab) and Megaboom (opens in new tab).

The UE Boom 2 is available for $179 (opens in new tab), while the Megaboom retails for $249 (opens in new tab).

  • If I remember correctly Google Now still doesn't allow playing music from the cloud correct. Only saved music?
  • Nope. I just said, "Play Song xxxx", and Google Play Music started playing it. Posted via the Android Central App

  • Anybody can tell me on witch firmware version the boom 2 need to be?! I don't have this feature on 1.1.55 Thanks :)
  • Does UE use a slow roll out, much like Google? When I launch the UE app, it says up to date. Yet, I don't have the Google Now integration.
  • Updated the meagboom app and it shows an upate for the speaker. Update installs and tries to restart the speaker. It times out and does not restart the speaker. The update will not install through the app.
