the Sprint Hero

The Sprint Hero was another milestone for Android, and an even bigger one for HTC.  As the first CDMA Android phone, it paved the way for others like the Droid and Evo 4G.  It was also the first phone in the US to launch with the HTC Sense interface, and love it or hate it you'll have to admit it changed the game in the "look and feel" department.

The Sprint Hero also taught us a good bit about the Android upgrade process, and the effect custom user interfaces could have on it.  While other phones updated to Donut (Android 1.6) and beyond, the Hero languished on Cupcake (Android 1.5) while HTC seemed to struggle getting Sense to work with the new changes.

All was eventually sorted out though, and the Hero (as well as other Sense devices) found themselves running Eclair (Android 2.1).  Even though some would consider the Hero near it's end-of-life, it still has a large user base, and as of this writing, is still a popular seller.
