Spotify update brings simpler navigation + offline radio to Premium users

Way back in August of this year, Spotify rolled out a new UI for its Android app that's much simpler and easy to use. This was a very welcome change considering how cluttered the app used to be, but up until now, this new UI has only been available for free users. Now, Spotify's expanding this to its Premium subscribers.

The bottom navigation bar that used to have tabs for Home, Browse, Search, Radio, and Your Library has been cut back to just Home, Search, and Your Library. The Search page has been completely revamped and is now your one-stop shop for finding all sorts of new music. At the top of the page is a "Your top genres" section that'll change over time based on your current listening habits.

Also new are revamped Artist Radios. Spotify says that these now "offer an endless listening stream personalized to the listener's own musical tastes." Artists Radios are "updated regularly to keep things fresh", and if you want to take them with you wherever you go, you now have the option of saving them for offline use.

All of this is rolling out to Spotify Premium users for Android and iOS starting today, so keep an eye out for it!

  • The best feature of Google Play Music is its clean interface. The second best GPM feature is the option for digital audio upscaling that is available only to corded headphones.... And that's why the elimination of the headphone jack drives audiophiles crazy.... You can't upscale over wireless bluetooth. I remain shocked how popular Spotify is.
  • People like "free stuff." The upscaling is hardware and device dependent, though. You use a Samsung device, or something? GPM is cluttred AF. So you have you be joking, there. Its also a battery hog that insists on running in the background. I don't even have it installed.
  • Still provides better SQ than Spotify.
  • The up scaling is niche, as in more for audiophiles. The average person is using average earbuds/headphones anyways.
  • It's about time.
  • Did they fix the queueing system? Queue/Play Next and Queue to the End/Play Later or is it still only the frustrating Add to Queue?
  • Now we're asking the real questions.
  • Looking forward to trying it. Hopefully artist radio will play similar artists instead of just mostly the same artist. I've been wishing for a song radio that will also play similar songs from other artist's
  • I have been a long time Spotify user, but I am testing out YouTube music right now, and I am starting to prefer the playlist curation of it a bit more.
  • Increase the limit in the number of downloaded songs for offline listening, this is one of the main reasons people move to other platforms and you keep ignoring it.
