Sony confirms Android 4.3 and 4.4 update plans

A week after the new OS version's announcement, Sony Mobile has revealed its upgrade plans for Android 4.4 KitKat, while committing to get the previous version, 4.3 Jelly Bean, onto some devices from next month.

Android 4.3 will arrive on the Xperia T, Xperia TX, Xperia V, Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 "from next month." The T, TX and V will go straight from Android 4.1 to 4.3, Sony says, while the others will jump from the newer version 4.2.

As for KitKat, Sony isn't offering any timeframe, but says it will update the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 to Android 4.4. The manufacturer isn't confirming KitKat for any other devices at this stage, however it describes these five as the "first raft" of updates, suggesting others will follow.

Elsewhere, HTC is the only Android manufacturer to commit to any timeframes for 4.4 updates, saying it aims to get the new version of Android on unlocked HTC Ones within 30 days, and update U.S. carrier models within 90 days.
