Samsung Chromebook Pro is (finally) coming May 28

The Samsung Chromebook Plus has been around for a while, having been announced at CES and released shortly after. The higher-end, professional-aimed Samsung Chromebook Pro, which was delayed from the original launch window, is finally coming to stores May 28.

The Chromebook Pro is the best Chromebook Samsung has ever built, and it comes with a 360-degree hinge, a 12.3-inch 2400x1600 touchscreen display, an included pen and Google Play Store apps, which will be on the stable channel rather than the beta channel most Chromebooks are currently using apps on.

Andrew reviewed a pre-production Chromebook Pro in the spring while Google Play apps were in beta, and it will be interesting to see how things have changed since that early look. The Samsung Chromebook Pro will be available at Best Buy, Amazon, Samsung's website, and the Shop Samsung app for $549.

  • Pretty sweet
  • I hope this means that the play store will be released to other Chromebook models soon as well
  • Personal opinion but I think 64 GB storage and 8 GB RAM would have been sweet and an instant buy.
  • the 64gb can be fixed w/ an SD card.
  • Oh man. I got an Asus Flip a few weeks ago, and I'm nearing the end of the return window. I wonder if I should return it and get this instead...
  • How do you like the flip? That's what I'm thinking of getting. Since you've already chose the Asus over the Sammy, what about the Pro is drawing you back in? Thanks!
  • I like the Flip pretty well. Performance and battery life are great. My only complaint is that the fan is pretty loud. The thing that would make me consider getting the Samsung instead is that Samsung screens are typically a bit nicer, and the stylus could come in handy.
  • Thanks... (But I thought these were fan free??)
The stylus pen is a draw for me...I just question how often I'd use it.
The screen (on the Plus) at best buy was sweet. Stopped me in my tracks while shopping for something else, and was what initially started my researching of the plus/pro and flip
  • You're right, it's not actually a fan. It sounds like a high-pitched fan noise, so that's what I chalked it up to, but now that I pay closer attention, it's actually a very noisy coil whine. Judging by several forums, it sounds like it's actually a pretty common issue with this model.
  • Well that sounds annoying. I wonder if the Pro has this issue. Same processor, right?
  • Is there any indication for price?
  • $549
  • Very interesting chromebook, might get one while in the US this summer, too bad it's not coming to Europe. Also : sorry eahinrichson for reporting your comment, meant to upvote and missed, haven't figured out how to undo the reporting.
  • I almost pulled the trigger on the plus but i was waiting to see when the pro would drop
  • Haven't owned a Chromebook yet, not sure if I should get something like this or go for one of the cheaper models for half the price.
  • I bet the display on the Pro is stunning. But there is no way that I'm paying more than $500 for only 32gb of internal storage and a compressed keyboard that is not backlit. Glad I sprung for the Asus Flip c302ca instead. I hope Android is ready for prime time on the stable channel when the Samsung Pro is released. Unfortunately, when the Asus Flip was released with Android on the stable channel earlier this year (January-February) it was awful.
  • Yes, I was on the fence for both of these too. How do you like the build quality of the Asus (no place I've visited had one in display to actually feel) but Best Buy had the Sammy. That keyboard was definitely a turnoff. The metal casing had a funky feel too. I'm 90%leaning to the Asus, but not yet totally committed. Any perspective would be appreciated. Thanks!
  • I have the Asus flip and I like it, but I need a bigger screen, I was hoping for a 14" or bigger. Might have to go with a win 10 machine. I have everything wrapped up in Google and microsoft does nothing but fight google products on their PC's. I wanted the Pro because I wanted a CB that would last me a few years.
  • I briefly had the Plus. Keyboard was awful. Completely uninspiring and felt dead. Yuck.
  • I've managed to fair just fine with the Plus variant, I don't play games or run intensive apps, my mind is above things that are beneath me - no need to pay for a Pro when its a processor change, one that isn't even optimized for apps, I much rather....the black color scheme though...but not for the additional food stamps it would cost to corral
  • Well here it is May 28th and no sign of the Pro for sale anywhere
