How to enable VoLTE on the Galaxy S7

Increasingly, carriers are rolling out Voice over LTE support on their devices, but the new telephony standard, which increases sound quality by using LTE instead of 3G to connect cellular calls, is still quite uncommon.

If your carrier supports VoLTE, here's how to enable it on the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge.

  1. From your home screen, press the Phone icon.
  2. Tap More on the top right corner.
  3. Scroll down and tap on Settings.By default, VoLTE should be enabled if your Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge was first used with a carrier SIM that supports it. If your phone was unlocked and subsequently transferred to a carrier SIM that supports VoLTE, you may have to enable it manually.

  1. Tap on VoLTE.
  2. Make sure that Use VoLTE when available is checked.

Note: Some versions of the Galaxy S7 may show this setting in a different spot. This explanation was performed on a Canadian Galaxy S7 running on Rogers. For a more U.S.-centric version, check out How to enable Advanced Calling features on the Galaxy S7.

  • Is this the same as HD voice (for AT&T)? If so, does it noticeably drain the battery on the S7 like it does on the S6? I'm curious if they fixed it... either with the new hardware, or in MM since the S6 on AT&T still hasn't gotten MM yet.
  • Yes it's the same thing. I didn't know it affected battery at all. Was this a big issue on the S6?
  • It was on the T-Mobile model. AT&T Galaxy Note 4
  • VoLte is pretty awesome but it sure does drain the hell out of my battery. If I turn it on, "cell standby" has a very high % on my battery screen even if don't make any calls. I'm OK with making calls the old fashioned way in exchange for much better battery life. One of the first things I do when I get a new phone is turn Volte off. Hopefully one day they will fix this so I can enjoy this feature. S7 edge/AC app
  • http://i.imgur.com/SDzPJDb.png On my UK S7 edge (sim free bought from Samsung) it's under the Settings screen in Mobile Networks. It's either on or off though, not "use when available", so on is always used when available. I have seen VoLTE icon in Ilford, London recently but nowhere else yet. I am on the Three network and previously it was believed you needed a network branded phone (with their firmware) to get VoLTE. This does not appear to be the case now.
  • I'm also on Three and I've seen the VoLTE icon pop up on my unlocked S7 from time to time and I live in Somerset.
  • This does not work if you bought the unlocked version from Samsung. No such option exists in the call settings menu. Its a real bummer. Even the CSC changing code (*#272) is disabled on this phone.
  • Yes it does work. The option is in "Mobile Networks" screen. See my post above.
  • No, in fact, it does not work......http://imgur.com/tc0L1F9
The article itself is based upon the Canadian variant of the phone using Rogers mobile as my phone is also. While the option may be available on the international F variant, it most certainly is not on the unlocked Canadian version.
  • Well it is onine and the option never was there before the latest update. I suggest checking you have the Katesbridge update.
  • Yup I had the unlocked SM-G930F and it didn't have this option along with samsung pay
  • I also have unlocked UK SM-930F and do have an option to toggle VoLTE on/off.
  • It's not under mobile networks.... It's under phone, settings Posted via the Android Central App

Maybe, instead of claimint to know what the hell you're talking about, you just take a comment at face value.
  • Yep it's there for me. On Rogers in Canada. It's already on I guess by default as I never turned it on. luvin my s7 edge

  • OK, so this is an old thread but I figured I would see if you're still checking it. I bought a sm-g903U about 2 weeks ago and can verify that the VoLTE option was not available on my phone through the phone app or through settings (I have my phone on the Verizon). I did a bunch of trouble shooting and even considered rooting my phone to fix this until I found a post saying to make sure HD calling was enabled on my plan. I activated it last night, restarted my phone a couple times, checked for system updates (yet again and don't know if this actually had any effect) and lo-and-behold its in my settings under mobile networks today. I still can't actually get the ****** to work (use LTE while making a call) but I at least was able to find the switch. If I can't get the VoLTE to actually work by this evening back to Best Buy you go and back to Nexus I go.
Sorry long story short, wanted to let you know you're not crazy and someone else had this issue.
  • Did you get this to work? Just bought that phone today and having same issue. May have to return the phone. How is the Nexus?
  • Not on AT&T
  • Mobile Data, and turn off Enhanced LTE, I think thats it. now if we could get WIFI calling and Messaging, I'd be really happy
  • Nope not seeing it Posted via the Android Central App
  • Mobile Networks, Mobile Data, then Enhanced LTE.. it's there on mine.
  • Not seeing anything like that on Sprint either.
  • As clearly stated. US carriers have the settings in call menu's and international variants have the settings located in mobile networks menu. Seen with my own eyes!
  • Anyone know how to turn it off? Not in call settings n not in menu settings...ive read everyones comments an nothing worked cant even find anything to do with it its just sitting in my icon bar at the top....
