If you're in the market for an Android handset but don't have a lot of cash to spend, picking up an older flagship can be a great way to get quality features and specs while staying on a budget. For example, if you're eyeing the Galaxy S20 but can't stomach its $1000 price tag, you may be better off considering the S10 or S9.
Recently, someone in our AC forums asked if it was still worth picking up the Pixel 2 XL here in 2020. Here's how our other members responded:
What say you? Do you think the Pixel 2 is a good purchase in 2020?
It wasn't a good purchase in 2017, it's an awful one now.
Dispite some of the models having hardware issues the phones specs are more than capable in 2020 and the camera can still hold its own very well against today's phones cameras minus not having a periscope zoom or an ultra wide camera. However, the guaranteed 3 year updates will be coming to an end this year. If someone can get the phone for really really cheap to play around with why not otherwise the Pixel 3a or 4a would be the better option.
It takes more than fast updates and a good camera to make this a decent phone.
The Pixel 2 XL will most likely be a bit slow now in 2020 and in my short time with my own 2 XL, I really enjoyed using it and didn't have any of the well documented issues such as the blue tint and so on it and it had really good battery life on Android 8.0 Oreo as well and loved getting the fast security updates and being first in line for Android 9 Pie which was when battery life started to take a hit. But in 2020, the Pixel 2 XL just isn't worth it anymore as guaranteed support with updates is going to stop in October.
