On January 7, Google officially began rolling out the January 2019 Android security patch.

This is the first big security update of 2019, and as with all patches, it's initially making its way to Google's own Pixel phones (and the Essential Phone) before later rolling out to devices from other OEMs.

Looking through the AC forums, it would appear that a lot of people have already gotten the update on their phone.

I just got the notification its preparing

Mine is also preparing right now too.

Yay, me too! Oh, this is so exciting.

Wow I'm on T-Mobile and it's the first time I got the security update the day it goes live! Starting 2019 off right!!

What about you? Has your phone received the January security patch yet?

  • Got the update on my Pixel 2 at around 6am IST 8th Jan. Took almost an hour to install this 49.7 MB update as the progress bar was stuck at 'Optimising Apps' for about 52 minutes.
  • Nah, I am still on Oreo. I don't care for the UI changes in Pie on my Pixel 2 that doesn't have a notch.
  • Just flashed the January update + ElementalX kernel. Yet another reason why I love my P2XL -- quick updates and continued dev support. No need to "upgrade" to another device.
  • Quick, buggy updates 😳
  • Installing now. 57.9 MB on Telus in Ontario.
  • Got mine a few hours ago without any issues! Pixel 3XL, purchased from Google, on AT&T.
  • Got for my Essential phone last night.
  • I got the update yesterday early in the a.m. It took a while for it to down load and install and all looks well at this time. After it does the install reboot thing I wait a while and reboot it again, just to shake lose any cobwebs that still may be hanging around.
On a good note I am noticing a marked improvement in sound quality from my P2XL's speakers. They didn't sound bad to start with, now even better. This phone rocks in every way, I see no reason to update to a new phone at this time. I don't think I could be happier with the purchase of my Pixel 2XL...
  • Yup. Pixel 2XL
  • I'm surprised my Pixel C is still receiving Security Updates.
