trillian

Many of you have asked -- or flat-out begged, according to Cerulean Studios, the developers of the popular all-in-one messenger application Trillian to come to Android. This application is very popular on a variety of platforms ranging from Macs to Windows and iPhones to BlackBerrys, and it seemed the only missing platform was Android (OK, and Palm), and luckily the cries have been heard. Here's the feature list.

  • Connect to Facebook Chat, Windows Live, Yahoo!, AIM, ICQ, Google Talk, Jabber/XMPP and MySpaceIM
  • Synchronize your contacts, avatars, status, accounts and more with your Trillian-enabled desktop or mobile apps
  • Get notified easily with Android notification system integration
  • Contact list sorting, grouping, metacontacts support, privacy settings and various ways to organize
  • Set status, avatar and display name quickly in one simple screen
  • Tabbed chat windows with bubble view, photo transfer, buzz and emoticon support
  • Support for Android phones as far back as version 1.6 – works with your good old T-Mobile G1 or the newest HTC Evo 4G or Motorola Droid!
  • We took special care and respect to design and build the user interface to smoothly integrate with Android – this is not just a clone from the iPhone!

The application is said to be hitting a beta stage within the next few weeks, so keep your eyes on the lookout, and be sure to keep up to date with their blog. Couple more screen shots after the break. [via Cerulean Studios Blog]

Never used the program, but I'm sure this will be better than the stock Google Talk application.

Bout time! I was waiting for this or beejive to come to Android. The current instant messenging apps in the market just don't cut it.

..not really sure of the big deal on this as Meebo already does all of this..don't get me wrong it's nice to have choices but this article makes it seem like this is the only prog that does this when in fact there are others out there..

Trillian on Android? Are people REALLY begging for this app?

I was once a Trillian fanboy, but that was when I was firmly planted in the Microsoft camp. Now that I thoroughly enjoy the benefits of the Mac OS X camp, I'm finding no use for the long-delayed Mac version of Trillian (which, oddly enough, remains in alpha-release status).

In fact, I tried Trillian on the Mac a few months ago and promptly deleted it several days later. It was just of no use to me right now. The info page talks about Twitter support but damned if I could find it; maybe it wasn't one of those "completed features" in the alpha release.

That said, I use mostly e-mail, text, facebook and Twitter. I keep a MySpace account, but haven't interacted with it in about a year. LOL.

The only place I could see where Trillian might have applicability is once I transition from BlackBerry to Android upon arrival of my EVO 4G (which is backordered). I've been monitoring the Android Central forums for all discussions on how best to replace the BlackBerry Messenger ("BBM") app now that at least two of my former BBM friends have moved onto Android ahead of me. It sounds like Google Talk was the way to go, but maybe - just maybe - Trillian could be useful here.

If they offer a beta or a trial I may have to give it a whirl. (Fingers crossed!)

I hope that this will be a direct all in one IM client and not a proxy like the other services such as meebo, ebuddy and fring and the other multi IM clients.

Looks like it has a nice interface.

I use meebo on the desktop, and i like its synced with my android. the only thing i dont like much about meebo is the "html" like interface of the contacts list

Trillian at work and Meebo on my phone. . . its going to be nice to have trillian running on both devices

Can't wait to get this since I have multiple IM accounts across Gmail alone and dont want to sign up for another account using Meebo or Nimbuzz.
