T-Mobile Xperia Z

Lock screen widgets and UI tweaks come five months after other models

Coming up on five months after over versions of the model received an update, the Sony Xperia Z on T-Mobile is getting the bump to Android 4.2.2 starting today. The software version 10.3.1.E.0.191 (coming in at 185MB) is rolling out to users over the air now, and it brings all of the same features as we saw on the Xperia Z, ZL and ZR several months ago.

That means you'll now have lock screen widgets, camera access from the lock screen, an overall facelift of the launcher and a few different styling changes through the settings and multitasking menu. You'll also have a new way to customize quick setting toggles in the notification shade, and a few other tweaks and improvements.

If you have an Xperia Z on T-Mobile you can check for the OTA now, or hook up to your computer and download the update manually via Sony's PC Companion (or Sony Bridge For Mac) software.

T-Mobile Xperia Z receives Android 4.2.2 update

Looks like the update included a NFC firmware upgrade that completely removed the option to turn GPS on/off through Smart Connect. Such a drag!

And Sony have announced the 4.3 update for August 2015, and 4.4 Kitkat for June 2017 :-p

Huh? 4.2.2 after all these years? Reckon its been submerged in water for the past months which is the only legit reason.

I suppose my phone is screwy now after the update because mine was only 104 MB and not 185! Neither T-Mobile or Sony have been able to fix it. No network choice options now, no myxperia app and terrible freezing.

While it may only be 4.2 Sony has given my Z the kit kat look and feel removing the black bars from top and bottom and even allowing me to install the official GE launcher, I'm loving it!!!
