Comment reply notification

A quick heads up, folks, that you can now chose to get an email notification whenever someone replies to one of your comments. It's opt-in — look for the box on posts starting now — so you control just how spammy things get. If things get out of control, just hit the "disable" link that'll be in the notification email.

Right now this is only enabled on the traditional web side of things. We'll get it added into the app just as soon as we can.

And, yes, we still have big plans ahead for notifications, beyond just simple emails. Thanks for your patience on that as we continue to spruce things up around here.

That's just terrible that means you will be getting STUPID NOTIFICATION from that internet troll @Squiddy20

Who the hell wants to be bothered by that flaming
idiot. But i will suscribe anyway.

Posted from my Galaxy Note 3 on Tmobile via Android Central App

You are also a flaming idiot.

1. You clearly do not know the definition of the word "troll". Use that "pimp slapping" Note 3 to google it.
2. If you *don't* want to be "bothered by that flaming troll", then why "subscribe"? The ridiculousness of your thought process is astounding. Also, it's proof that *you* are the "troll", especially with all the childish posts you've been making via Disqus calling me specifically out, and posting a picture you obviously found on the Internet claiming it's me. Get a life.

Of course, iPhone gets everything before Android

You really should see the crap I don't post. Sorry if honesty offends you

Heard you like emails, so we got an email saying how you like emails of your emails! Lol

True, but in the off chance you ask a question you will have the opportunity to see the response without continuously monitoring that thread.

And it's also possible people will think about what they are going to say before hurling insults into the wind.
Ok, it COULD happen...

That's giving some people a lot of credit. Admittedly, many of the "regulars" on AC tend to be able to have a civil argument.

AWESOME SAUCE!

Ok, I want to enable this in my profile for all comments. How can I make this the default?

Wait. I'm not actually seeing it? There's no checkbox on my screen. :( #sadpanda

This I like. Instead of having to checkmark individually, do it by default in my profile settings.

Thanks Phil, been waiting on this for a veeeery long time. Cant wait for "thumbs up/+1" "thumbs down/-1" button on comments too. So we can stop actually posting "+1" comments lol

Are you saying that you actually bookmarked everything you commented on until now just to go back a week later to check for replies? Who does that? Hah...

No i don't bookmark anything...I just comment and try to remember what I commented on. And since I comment on so much, its hard to remember.

Actually, if you just go to your account page, you can see a list of every article you've commented on. I have gone through that list in the past and clicked through the recent ones checking for replies. Maybe I'm just weird.

Do these big plans that Phil mentioned include Spam?

Because AC already is advertising heavy as is and a boat load of spam would go straight to report spam folder.

Wow.... I just complained about this on another AC article and it got fixed within about 3 hours.... Good work over there.

Great! its funny cause the other day I noticed crackberry had the notification feature. I'm like why doesn't AC have it too? :/

But all good now :) Though I don't see the checkbox just yet

3yrs laterrrrrrrrr. . . . .most every other site does this. I've been waaaaaaaiting for this on this site.

I think that's an editors thing for right now. But I believe we're going to roll it out to everyone soon.

Unless, that is, you'd prefer not to have it? :)

Yeah, thanks

I like your signature! There is a shortage of honest, blunt people in the world.

No, like others you are also full of yourself.

If anyone thinks the immature and idiotic flame wars have gotten out of hand on this site, now it's going to be nearly impossible to find a substantive comment.

Perhaps that is what AC wants. More participation by a smaller group.

Actually, having visited this site at least once a day for several years now, the "flame wars" tend to be pretty mild (with the exception of a few specific people). What this *will* facilitate is the ability to have more in-depth conversations and discussions, as well as people being able to help each other out and answer questions. You should try not to automatically assume the worst. And, if someone gets out of hand on a thread that you're subscribed to, the best thing to do is to calmly remind them that there's no need for that behavior and then unsubscribe to the thread.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I've been waiting for this for months... or maybe years. The lack of reply notification is a major disincentive to leave comments when most other blogs (disqus) have it. Now I have a reason to click through from feedly more often.

Thanks for doing this. Now I will know when Richard Yarnell responds to my anti Samsung comments lol

I really missed this feature when leaving WP8 and the WPcentral app.
Nothing compares to that for news apps.
Still I'm glad Android Central is getting this.

Well it's about damn time...I can't count how many times I've thought "I would reply, but what's the point since I have to remember I commented on that so I can check the conversation later" What's the point in commenting when you have no idea if and when people reply to your comment?

Anyway, thanks for the new feature....now if I can just remember to check that box.....

What took so long? Android Authority has done this for awhile. I prefer Android Central, but that why I would post more comments on Android Authority.

"How'd you get the beans above the frank?"
