Developers can now download the official SDK tools they will need to make apps made for the upcoming Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch. The company says that over 1,000 apps should be available for the Gear S2 when it becomes available to consumers in October.
The SDK tools are available at Samsung's Developer website. They include
- Enhanced Standalone Features: Developers can create enhanced standalone Samsung Gear S2 apps with network, call and location-based APIs, with the freedom to connect to 3G networks without a smartphone.
- Web and Native Apps: Developers can also build both Web and Native apps with the new SDK. Tizen Native APIs enable them to build fast, light-weight and beautiful apps with EFL (Enlightenment Foundation Libraries).
- Support for Android: Connect to Android phones, including but not limited to Samsung models. Wider device coverage will help to reach more users.
Some of the apps that will be released for the Gear S2 include official news apps from CNN, Bloomberg and ESPN, along with the Voxer messaging app, a Uber app to help get a quick ride and more.
