Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

Update: Samsung just pinged us to say that Amazon put this page up in error, and that the Note 10.1 isn't yet available for preorder. And, sure enough, the page has been killed. (Samsung also points out the errors that many of you spotted in the specs as another clue that Amazon wasn't quite ready for this one to go live.) The good news is that Sammy's now well aware of how excited you all are for the Note 10.1, so there's that.

Original post follows.

Pop quiz: What's 10.1 inches in diagonal, looks like a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 but acts like a Galaxy Note? Oh, and it's available for preorder at Amazon U.S. If you answered the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, you'd be correct. And for bonus points, you'd know that it's up for preorder for $549.99.

Amazon says it'll ship in 3 to 5 weeks, but it wouldn't surprise us if that's just a ballpark and it shifts either way. In the meantime, be sure to check out our hands-on from Mobile World Congress back in February to see what you're getting yourself into.

Been waiting for this ever since I first saw it on the MWC videos...

Tablets do not work for me if I cannot take notes. I do technical drawings a lot and almost most of my notes are drawings.

This is fantastic!

gierso says:

i can take notes on my ASUS tf300T .. u just need the right app. and asus has a nice one.

but if this has also the telephony stuff. then im all in for a supersized phone!!!

I own the Note 5 Phone; the note taking on these devices are different than what you can download as apps on other tablets/phones.

These actually have a second layer of sensors on the phone, it's incredibly sensitive, has pressure sensors and while you're writing and say you touch the screen or your wrist rests on the screen, those signals will NOT get picked up and ruin your drawings.

Professionals have similar things using watcom tablets that costs a lot of money, sometimes several thousands.

Although this is a much trimmed down version compared to watcom, it's still eons beyond what you can get with dumb-touch interfaces with other devices.

Simple put, there is nothing like this. It is a true technology breakthrough.

The chip based tablets are Wacom tablets. Just fixing a typo for you.

Averix says:

LOL Amazon has some interesting stats for this...
Processor: 1.4 GHz Quad Core Xeon

decke003 says:

Hopefully they upgraded the battery :-)

YzBrad99 says:

Yeah it comes with a 100,000 mAh battery. Its superslim too!

betsuni says:

Even better, a Hard Drive?

Hard Drive
Size: 32 GB
Manufacturer: Flash Memory
Speed: 5400 rpm

Never knew flash memory has a rpm speed. =P

gierso says:

thats slow for a flash drive!

VetteDude says:

If its an Intel Xeon, I'm getting this as a cheap server :P

Fugaz-Star says:

ME Tooo!!!!! I've been waiting this ever since they announced it at MWC. what are the specs? Does it have the quad-core Exynos processor? or same as the model it was shown back then?

alcor34 says:

Thanks guys..

Davest says:

I'd like to have a tablet with a stylus, but I'm not going to buy last year's tech now. 1200x800 display, dual core processor - really disappointing. Especially with this on the way, for $100 less: http://www.androidcentral.com/acer-debuts-a700-tablet-1080p-tegra-3-32gb.... Does Samsung really think that their nameplate is worth an extra $100, with far inferior specs? Seems that they're going the way of Apple.

decke003 says:

Don't you read? Its got a quad core Xeon processor!!!

gierso says:

and you can install a windows server operating system. :P

the asus tf300t was advertized as a Xeon too but i only got a lousy Tegra 3 quadcore chip

Davest says:

Heh...oh, right - of course. Silly me.

3rdpig says:

Android tablets a sales flop, the iPad owns the market. So you're right, Samsung is trying to follow the Apple model and advertise capabilities, not specs. Because without sales there won't be products on the shelves.

Davest says:

But Apple is advertising their "capabilities" to a market that, in general, is far less tech-savvy than the Android market. Charging $100 more for an inferior product is insulting, and the average Android consumer will understand that. One can argue that, among the current crop of apps, we've yet to really see the advantage of a quad-core processor, but that's a catch-22 - the devs won't start developing for them until there's a critical mass of them in consumers' hands. And there's no arguing that the 1200x800 display and 3 MP camera are relatively ancient tech at this point. Maybe at $350 (or even $400, to cover the cost of the stylus), this would be a good deal. At $550, not so much.

joebob2000 says:

Yeah I can't imagine how someone would get away with selling a tablet that has 1024x768 screen and a .7 megapixel camera in 2012, talk about being behind the times... Oh, wait!

eyesparky says:

Even though they have sold way more of them than the iPad had when it was declared a runaway success. When they started moving across from Honeycomb to ICS there were already circa 10 Million official Android tablets accessing the market, excluding the original Galaxy Tab and the Amazon Fire and the countless non official Android tablets in circulation. I have to think they are over 20 Million officially recognised Android tablets by now. It would be good to hear from Google on this at IO, as using the Android Developer version numbers no longer gives any insight into possible levels. Using one every day, I have to say they are pretty useful.

gierso says:

it seems outdated already. i guess. i will enjoy my tablet for a while and then decide for the next note. or the tf700 from asus ;D~

or it will be the

galaxy NOTE S
galaxy note II
Samsung Google NEXUS NOTE
Universe Note
Samsung note
and so on for names hahaha

Quryous says:

All this is well and good, but we'd hope that they have a better screen, Full HD, like on the new LG PHONE screen, full 1920 x 1080P in an OLED, but NOT Pentile. And, completely water-proof and drop-proof, as well.

We would also like to see them make their screen truly superambiphobic (that is: VERY water (hydrophobic) and oil (oleophobic) repellant, to cut down on smudges and fingerprints).

A superambiphobic screen is able to keep itself completely clean of smudges, smears, water spots, oil stains, fingerprints, etc. Lets get it on, Samsung! Recently I saw a friend’s phone after he signed in with gestures. From several feet away I could see the pattern he used smeared on the screen, even after several minutes of use. That is NOT secure, we NEED better glass, superambiphobic glass, to be exact.

It should also try to make itself a bit more future-proof. 32GB of RAM is an absolute MINIMUM! We’d actually like to see 64 or more.

Then, bring it to all carriers, as you did with the S III. Then, of course, you can make it a Nexus device, to avoid bloatware and speed up updates.

NOW you are getting somewhere.

But, at THAT price, I think I'll just pass. It is already out of date.

It should also drive you to work. Also, it should be able to BECOME a car, or an airplane depending on my needs. I can't believe there isn't a tablet out there that I can't eat, and digest in case I am starving. But it would need to regenerate of course or I wont buy it. It is already out of date indeed. And my expectations are not absurd either.

xeroslash says:

32GB of RAM on a tablet? DAY ONE BUY PRE-ORDER CONFIRMED

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY

dave04045 says:

"32 GB of RAM is an absolute MINIMUM!"

PLEASE release a Wi-Fi only version. PLEASE!

youareme7 says:

In the age of the ipad 3, I just can't bring myself to buy something 10" that doesn't have a 1080P or greater screen. I might go for the 7" nexus tablet though, mostly because it's cheap and will sate my desire for a tablet for another year or two.

eyesparky says:

I thought they had totally reengineered it since then, changing the processor and altering the stylus and tablet design to allow for the stylus to be housed within the tablet body.

fage88 says:

is it running Honeycomb in that billbord? Honeycomb is useless

betsuni says:

Amazon took the page down.

scaots says:

It needs a high res screen. Same resolution as a 5.3 Note is not adequate.

xeroslash says:

Looks like Amazon was a little too quick for Samsung. Page is down and search brings up only Tabs and the phone.

TheTallMan says:

Yeah I....I want this now.

Same here. When I heard it has a wacom digitizer, I was sold almost instantly. I'm just waiting now for a real pre-order, and I'm all in!

betsuni says:

So any hints if Sammy will make an announcement or will it be a stealth launch?

ICU812 says:

Her voice is amazing.

DrDoppio says:

I thought so too, lol... and her hands... I'd love to watch even if she was demoing an ipad...

jrosenbomb says:

Hey, I ordered it on Amazon. and it's still in my account.

anjali_jain says:

That's ok, at least they are going to modify dual to quad, that's fine for me, and it’d be worth the wait :)

alcor34 says:

Idk i ordered one, specs said quad core etc... i called amazon this morn, and the rep said don't cancel the order because in fact my order went in before their limited stock ran out, which is why they took down the page.

She said that is was provided to them from samsung. (though she does not work in warehouse). Luckily i'm not charged till shipping so..

All over the place. When i was on amazon yest morn it said there was only two available.
