Pebble 2.0 for Android

New app is still a bit rough around the edges but includes the all-important Pebble appstore

Pebble today has finally updated its Android application to version 2.0.

Most important, perhaps, is that the updated app and firmware — which is v2.0.1., actually — means apps built with the Pebble SDK 2.0 will now work on your watch. And just slightly behind that is the Pebble appstore, which brings things under one roof — apps and watchfaces are all in one place now.

Here's the full, official changelog:

  • Browse, find, and install watchapps and watchfaces for Pebble.
  • Discover new and most popular watchapps by category: notifications, fitness, daily use, tools & utilities, remotes, and games.
  • Watchapp locker: conveniently store your favorite Pebble watchapps when not in use.
  • Receive notifications when software updates for Pebble are ready to install.
  • Supports Pebble watchapps built with SDK 2.0, including the new JavaScript API.
  • Troubleshoot issues and make suggestions right from the app.

In addition, Pebble today announced three new partner apps — eBay, Evernote and Time Warner Cable

And if you haven't visited yet, be sure to hit up our newly-launched sibling site SmartwatchFans.com, where they're covering the Pebble and Pebble Steel in full force.

I just installed Beta 11 two days ago. But this is great. Remember kids to UNINSTALL your Beta app first!

eahinrichsen says:

I installed the update without uninstalling Beta 11 and it replaced the beta automatically.

If you have Beta 10 or earlier installed, uninstalling the beta is probably still a good idea.

+1 I just did this also.

HARRHARR says:

Me too... The app is very slow for me, and it takes a few seconds for pages to load. Wondering if this is caused from not uninstalling the beta first?

I installed Pebble Cards, and it says "Loading..." sometimes for minutes before it displays weather and whatever else.

Nope. That's normal. It's pretty janky still.

Yup. Janky but functional.

Try a device restart maybe. I think it was beta 10 when I first downloaded it, it was doing weird slow stuff like that. After a device restart it was better.

About time! I just hope the Samsung Talk Back issue gets resolved soon!

Neat timing, this morning I decided to wear my Pebble instead of my Sony SW2 again, and because of that ordered a pebble steel this afternoon... So awesome!

Pebble app stuck on "installing..."

Volkers84 says:

Same happened to me. I restarted my phone (gs4 if that helps) and then reopened the app... Everything worked fine after that...

I also have a GS4. I think it's stuck on install as well because the screen keeps flashing the orange Pebble logo but nothing happens. I've tried restarting and reinstalling the app. No dice.

Good job you broke the internet.

Took long enough, but at least they worked out most of the kinks. I like waiting and having a functional app rather than getting an app that doesn't work right and is released too soon. I guess I can update from beta 11 now.

i agree but as they never said up until after they missed their january deadline(that they voluntarily gave us) that they treat android as a secondary platform.i would have bought a smartwatch 2 had i known this fact.

Is anyone else having a lot of disconnects? It is killing my experience with my Moto X. I use it as a trusted bluetooth and everytime it loses connection it resets the security. So tired of putting in my pin

I'm not getting any on my Galaxy Nexus so far. I'm using Pebble Locker, and haven't had any drops since updating about six hours ago. I wasn't getting any previously, either.

bjsstranger says:

I uninstalled, reset the device and reinstalled. Seemed to help a little. Only three disconnects while using glance for the entire day. Much more acceptable

Was looking forward to this but decided to return my Pebble Steel watches. Didn't meet my expectations. Perhaps the next version will be appealing to me.

It's junk. Keeps losing connection to my Pebble and won't send notifications. Should have gotten. A Sony Smartwatch 2.
