The Padfone 2 is preparing for a launch in December, but until then, ASUS has begun showing off a white model of the smartphone/tablet combo. To date we've only seen the black version, which, classy as it may be, isn't for everybody.

What's under that pretty paint job? A quad-core Snapdragon processor, 2 GB of RAM, 13 megapixel camera, and a 4.7-inch 720p display, that's what. NFC and LTE connectivity are both a part of a the package, with 32 GB and 64 GB variants to be available. The tablet companion device has a little nook where your phone can plug in for extra juice and project an adapted reflection from the phone onto the large 10-inch display.

The only downside here is that the UK isn't due to get the Padfone 2 until 2013, and we haven't heard a peep about a North American launch. Boourns. Even if it were available, would you guys consider picking up the phone? How about the tablet? I dig the idea, but I'm worried about compatibility issues for apps that run on the phone but are displayed on the tablet.

Padfone 2 shows up in white prior to December launch

I don't even understand the concept of the phone and tablet combo... looks like a ridiculous idea of a joke, like popping a cassette in a cassette player....outdated. The phone looks like an iPhone, only the UI I'll give some credit to.

It would be great for me. I'm constantly trying to juggle info I have on my tablet and phone when I'm out and because my tablet doesn't have a data connection unless I hook it up to my phone's wifi (which I don't do all the time because it drains the battery) the data isn't synced. With this all the data would be on the phone and when I wouldn't have to worry about keeping data on my tablet separate.

@ShahinTr, thanks for coming and sharing your lack of understanding.

personally I really like the idea of a core device which then extends into a tablet and then can add a keyboard dock... one SIM, one contract, one set of messages, one set of media files.

The padfone 2 doesn't come with a keyboard as the padfone 1 did nor the bluetooth headset/Stylus, not even as aftermarket options, right?

If that is correct, then it's a great disappointment

they said that there WILL be a keyboard, just that it will follow on later.

the stylus still seems to be MIA. I don't think many people were all that overwhelmed, it's not like it was a Galaxy S Pen, but the idea of a Pen + bluetooth headset seemed kind of cool.
