Sonic

Big news from GDC for Sonic fans! The original Sonic the Hedgehog is making it's way to Android. It will cost $2.99 (a bargain for any fan) and we have no release date as of yet. We do know that it's going to be completely re-written as a native Android app, and deliver a "rock solid" frame rate and take advantage of the wide screen of Android devices for superior game play. In addition, Time Attack mode will be included, as well as a completely remastered sound track.

While not official, folks at SonicRetro think the new game may be built using the Retro Engine, as developer Christian Whitehead recently tweeted:

Those feels, I'm preparing a build for GDC and I won't even be there.

It sounds like we're going to be in for a treat. We're going to talk more with Sega tomorrow and see if we can't get a little demo. All you need to do is dust off the old Game Gear and practice.

The original Sonic the Hedgehog coming to Android

No I prefer if it was Sonic 3. Also they need to release Sonic Racing (and the new Transformed version) for Android, they have it on iOS, do they think Android hardwares can't handle it?

Where is Crazy Taxi? I thought we were getting a port of that 6 months ago. I would like to see more Dreamcast ports. Zombie Revenge, Dynamite Cop, Virtual On, House of the Dead, Daytona, Virtua Cop, Seaman, Shenmue, Space Channel 5, Phantasy Star Online, Skies of Arcadia, Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter.

Game Gear Jerry? Real Sega fans have a Nomad! ;)

Skies would be a day 1 purchase for me. That game would be so perfect and epic on tablets!

Small nitpick, but the original Sonic came out on the Genesis, not the Game Gear.

Also, supposedly Sonic 2 is to follow... here's hoping it includes multiplayer!

I hope the Android game is based on the Genesis (Megadrive) version and not on the Game Gear version!

I'm still hoping Sega ports Outrun to Android.

No. Please don't remaster the soundtrack! That's what I loved about the original game, the 16-bit sound!
