LG Optimus 2X

Because PR messages too often are, well, borked on Facebook, we instead point you to the most recent statement from LG on, erm, Facebook, regarding Ice Cream Sandwich updates and the fact that the Optimus 2X will indeed be updated to Android 4.0. It reads thusly:

LG firmly denies the rumors that claim LG will not be providing the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS update for the LG Optimus 2X. These rumors are NOT true. LG is currently in the process of planning the ICS OS update for the LG Optimus 2X as well as other LG high-end smartphones. Detailed information on the ICS OS update schedule for specific models will be announced, once the ICS OS is publicly released by Google. Please stay tuned for more updates from LG.

Thank you very much.

To repeat: We're still just two weeks out of the ICS announcement, and the ICS code has not yet been made available (publicly, anyway). Let's all exercise a little caution when we see someone supposedly saying a phone will or won't be getting an update. Unless you're reading LG, of course.

So that means the T-Mobile LG G2x will get it too since it is the same thing as the Optimus 2x on this side of the pond? I hope so since I just got my G2x in the mail yesterday.

Jeremy626 says:

now that depends on... TMOBILE !

JFetch says:

No it doesn't. LG can just release it for people to use the LG Update Tool(or whatever it's called) to get it and bypass T-Mobile.

I know... people act like ICS has been out forever and ANY (even tablets) upcoming device without ICS preloaded is crap. Geeze people, Google hasn't even released their device with ICS on it and it looks like it won't be out for another couple of weeks. You can't have ICS devices coming out if ICS hasn't even been officially released yet.

LOL.. they started that "rumor" themselves on their own facebook page, they can't be suprised people took it as fact?! Makes you wonder if the public outcry has caused them to relent.

But this is promising. Just hope they actually come up with the goods, and preferably before ICS is superceded. My o2x is still on Froyo, although the GB updated supposedly started rolling yesterday I'm not seeing it yet.

No, that was the "Life's Good" Facebook page, not the "LG Mobile" Facebook page.

Not sure why people are having such a hard time understanding that they're probably run by very different entities within LG.

tdcrooks says:

Sure, they could be run by different entities within LG. In that case, the "Life's Good" page should have referred the person who asked the question to the "LG Mobile" page, or inquired within the company for the right answer. That said, I don't see why the employee would "guess" that ICS would not be supported and tell that to the public, which makes me think they may not have had plans to update the O2X, until they received a lot of bad publicity for it.

Is your 2X an unbranded version? If you bought it from a network it won't get the update just yet

mallyuk says:

Yep unlocked and unbranded, checking daily for my gingerbread :) Not too concerned though now I know it exists and is coming!

phlyer says:

Hopefully this means the Thrill will get it too. But right now I'd just be happy to get 2.3.

kevinpalooza says:

LG also said that the LG Optimus V would be getting Gingerbread, over a year ago, without a peep since. Talk is cheap.

w9awx says:

The Optimus S was upgraded and then stopped the upgrade due to compatibility issues with the upgrade to the phone. That may be why you are still waiting for it. If you go to the Optimus S forum, you'll see all of the posts about the issues regarding the upgrade. I should know, I am one of them waiting for a fix to my upgraded phone.

My Optimus S has the 2.3.3 ginger update. Same phone as the V

polyhedral says:

That's real nice, but I'm sitting here with a V myself, and it's 2.2 froyo nonsense.

It's capable, but it's a cheapish phone. It's cyanogen modded until LG decides to stand against fragmentation.

i have the G2X running CM7.1 and launcher pro... it's all skinned to look like ICS.... im not worried about it.. love my G2X.. and when the CM dev team gets the source code for ICS and releases CM9 (cant remember why they're skipping "8"), i'll have ICS... but for now, my phone is slicker than snot, no thanks to LG or tmobile...
